For Immediate Release

SATURDAY: Springsteen to Join Rally for Obama in Philadelphia
Free concert for Pennsylvanians will be huge opportunity to register voters and sign up volunteers; preferred tickets must be picked up at campaign offices
PHILADELPHIA – Bruce Springsteen is coming to Philadelphia this weekend to perform an acoustic set at a rally on the Ben Franklin Parkway in order to assist the Obama campaign’s voter registration and volunteer recruitment efforts.
The concert will take place on the Saturday before Pennsylvania’s voter registration deadline on Monday.
“Senator Obama is a great fan of Bruce Springsteen and is honored to
have his support. This will be a great opportunity to gather tens of
thousands of our supporters together in one place as we register new
voters and bring new volunteers into this campaign for change,” said
Craig Schirmer, the Pennsylvania State Director of the Obama-Biden
campaign.
The campaign has already registered and mobilized an unprecedented
number of voters in the state, and the makeup of the electorate will be
fundamentally different than it was in 2004. In that election, John
Kerry beat George Bush by 144,000 votes at a time when Democrats
outnumbered Republicans by 580,000 voters. This year, that advantage
will be about 1.2 million.
The New Jersey native endorsed Senator Obama in April, writing that the
Democratic nominee “speaks to the America I’ve envisioned in my
music…a country that’s interested in its collective destiny and in the
potential of its gathered spirit.”
The concert will take place on Saturday at Benjamin Franklin Parkway
between 20th and 22nd Streets.
Gates open at 2:00 and the program will begin at 3:30.
For access to the best viewing area, preferred tickets will be
distributed to those who sign up to volunteer. This can be done
beginning at 10:00 AM on Wednesday at the Obama-Biden campaign for
change offices listed below.
General admission tickets can be secured at the following website:
pa.barackobama.com/springsteen
Media Coverage: The event is open to the press. Space will be extremely
limited, as will access to sound. Please direct all inquiries to

Settle A Bet For Me Please
Say you always wanted to head to Nashville to see someone perform at the Grand Ole Opry. And say you heard one of the all time greats, George Jones, was going to be there on Nov. 1. Now say you heard he’s sharing the bill with Brad Paisley. Got that? Question is: Does Brad Paisley’s loathsomeness cancel out George Jones’ cool?

Inside The Pitch Meeting For COED Magazine’s Latest Idea
Frat boy 1: So, we’re all a bunch of dicks here, right? I mean. I’m safe saying that, right?
Frat boy 2: Absolutely, brah. What’s up?
FB 1: Well, you know how every time we go to Coachella or Bonnaroo there are hella fine bitches there wearing close to nothing ?
FB 2: Uh, yeah.
FB 1: Well, how about this? In addition to offering polls like “Who would you rather do- ScarJo or Anne Hathaway?” I think COED could take pictures of these bitties while they aren’t looking, and post them in a photo set on our website.
FB 2: That, whoa, that is genius, brah. That’ll be a pageview bonanza. Even bigger than our photo set on the Boobs Babes of Oktoberfest.
Frat Boy 3: Now, hold on. These girls are just dressing appropriately for the weather. I think sneaking pictures of them and posting them on a website they would have nothing to do with otherwise is a pretty terrible thing to do. [PAUSE] I’m fucking with you!! BWHAHAHA. You should have seen your faces! On the real: that’s the best idea since puka shell necklaces, brah.
FB 1: I think it could be pretty awesome, man. Cuz I’ll be honest, it’s not the bands I’m looking at!
*High five*
FB 2: I hear ya. I don’t even know who’s playing this year. Eryka Ba-who? Black Keys? I saw Man Man at Coachella, and it was some gay art school shit.
FB 3: Who?
FB 2: Man Man. Lead singer Honus Honus is pictured above. You can find more pictures here.
FB 1: Oh. Yeah. Sound like Squirrel Nut Zippers. Remember them? Anyway, my idea, let’s do it.
FB 2: Hells yeah, friend. Hells yeah.
*Kiss on lips*

Janet Jackson Hospitalized, Philly Gig This Week Still Scheduled To Go On
Last night in Montreal Janet Jackson “got suddenly ill” during sound check and canceled her show, according to TMZ. She was rushed to the hospital, but no other details of her condition have been given. (I’m thinking she got a bad batch of poutine. Ummmmm, poutine.) (Either that or she finally got a good look at boyfriend Jermaine Dupree’s face.) (Seriously.) (Yowza.)
Janet Ms Jackson (cuz I’m nasty) also canceled Detroit Sunday, citing “production constraints.” (I’m thinking she got a bad case of the Divas.) Her camp has given no word yet on the fate of Thursday’s Wachovia gig. Stay tuned.

Philadelphia Rappers Make One Of Those Pointless Lists VH1 Is Always Doing
Last night VH1 let loose with another one of the pointless lists they do where Mo Rocca and a bunch of other schleps discuss the “Top 100 Dumbest Celebrity Quotes” or the “Top 50 Most Worthless Lists.” Last night’s topic? “Top 100 hip-hop Songs of All Time,” and as you may have guessed, it’s a somewhat lazy hack at some top artists biggest chart-toppers. 50 Cent, “In Da Club,” Sir Mix-A-Lot, “Baby Got Back,” etc. etc. People aren’t pleased. Here’s me being a rap stan: “‘Walk This Way’???? That’s the worst song on RUN DMC’s Raising Hell! And it lead to the birth of Limp Bizkit and all those other shitty rap/rock hybrids that still haunt my ever-loving dreams! Unacceptable!”
They’ve got a point. And speaking of stans, Eminem’s “Stan” is on the list at #15. Such an awful song.
But there’s good news too. Specifically for three Philadelphia rappers. Can you guess who? First guess doesn’t count! Yes, yes. Fresh Prince and DJ Jazzy Jeff. They shored up the # 96 spot with “Parents Just Don’t Understand,” naturally. Eve is right behind them at # 97 with “Who’s That Girl.” And waaaaay up the list are, surprise, the Roots with “What They Do” at # 64. The rest of the list can be found after the jump. Show airs on VH1 again today and everyday now until the end of time.

Spinto Band’s New Album Moonwink Making Waves
What do you do when Zane Lowe of the BBC 1 calls your current album Moonwink “The hottest record in the world right now”? Well, first, you might ask “Who the fuck is Zane Lowe?” And then you’d probably thank him. But not before you’d “boop” his nose ala Seth and Evan in Superbad because he’s got a British accent and that’s always soooo cute. Then, after ducking his punch, you’d probably tell him he’s not the only one totally crushing on your new album right now. Filter says of it “the amicably off-kilter sophomore album that Clap Your Hands Say Yeah might have released if they weren’t trying to burn the hype machine that the lockstep bloggerati created in earnest…you can’t help but wink back.” And Paste is on the bandwagon too, singing Moonwink’s praises thusly: “Spinto Band knows exactly how to channel post-adolescent snickers and pre-professional abandon into tight, giddy guitar pop. Sharp, tinkling melodies reveal surprisingly sophisticated songwriting…” Nice. Too bad no one reads Paste.
Anyway, we’re just laying back in the cut saying, “Yes, yes. Thank you all for coming on board the U.S.S. Told You So. We said there would be big, big things happening for the Wilmington, Del., six pack way back in 2006. Thanks for catching up.”
The boys are over in Europe now. (In fact, check out this boss performance of “The Cat’s Pajamas” at a HUGE show in France.) They return stateside on the 17th of October with a guaranteed sell out at the First Unitarian, and tour the rest of the country through the end of the year.
Moonwink comes out on Park the Van in the U.S. on Oct. 7. GET INTO IT!
