Settle A Bet For Me Please

Say you always wanted to head to Nashville to see someone perform at the Grand Ole Opry. And say you heard one of the all time greats, George Jones, was going to be there on Nov. 1. Now say you heard he’s sharing the bill with Brad Paisley. Got that? Question is: Does Brad Paisley’s loathsomeness cancel out George Jones’ cool?

Discuss.

No, but if Jones was the opening act, you’d be within your rights to ask for a refund.
And the bet is someone at the Opry would understand and give it to you.

First of all, I doubt Brad would ever allow George to open for him; he’s way too modest for that! Even though Brad could potentially be the headliner with Adkin, Dickens, and Jones on the bill, since Jones doesn’t have the chops he once had. Still, Brad would probably never let a country legend open for him.

Secondly, Brad happens to be the finest guitarist in the country music industry since the passing of Jerry Reed. Keith Urban doesn’t hold a candle to Brad, as he himself admitted last year that Brad does riffs on the guitar that even he can’t touch.

Third, Brad is the reigning male vocalist of the year.

Forth, he’s one of the top song writers in the business.

So for anyone to describe Brad as ‘loathsome’, you either have a personal vendetta against Brad, or you are an older gentleman who is hopelessly stuck in traditional country music and cannot make a connection with the contemporary blended styles you hear on the radio these days. If it’s the latter then I feel sorry for you, as well as empathize, as I transversely have a difficult time listening to older styles of Country music.

I hope you attend the show and have a wonderful time!

    Wes,

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. My problem with Brad Paisley isn’t personal, I promise. I enjoy quite a bit of contemporary country. I can listen to Taylor Swift, Sugarland and Dierks Bentley all day. (A bad day, but still.) My problem with Paisley is that he’s half a pun away from being Weird Al Yankovic. Just hearing the cheese ooze from “Online” gives me fits. Oof. But good to hear he’s humble, and that he has a healthy respect for the legends. That makes me like him a tad bit more, even if I find his music (and his paisley patterned guitar) loathsome.

    Ed.
