Nine Inch Nails Saying Goodbye?

I missed Nine Inch Nails the last time they rolled through Philadelphia — last August 29th at the Wachovia Spectrum, on their “Lights in the Sky” tour — but from everything I heard and read, it was a multimedia spectacular. The next time NIN rolls through Philly, which looks to be sometime in 2009, may very well be its last. Over at the band’s website, Trent Reznor has announced that to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its initial releases, Nine Inch Nails is going on hiatus soon. But not before they do a U.S. tour with old pals Jane’s Addiction (reunited again), with whom they shared stages on the inaugural Lollapalooza tour back in 1991. Says Trent:

After some thought, we decided to book a last run of shows across the globe this year. The approach to these shows is quite different from last year – much more raw, spontaneous and less scripted. Fun for us and a different way for you to see us and wave goodbye. I reached out to Jane’s to see if they’d want to join us across the US and we all felt it could be a great thing. Will it work? Will it resonate in the marketplace? Who knows. Are there big record label marketing dollars to convince you to attend? Nope.
Does it feel right to us and does it seem like it will be fun for us and you? Yes it does.
Look for tour dates soon and I hope to see you out there.

We’ll let you know about a Philly date as soon as we hear anything. Meanwhile, here’s some footage from the August show (complete with some nu-raver chick’s glowing bracelets):
