SXSW-ing With: Reef The Lost Cauze

Philly rapper Reef the Lost Cauze is yet another local act heading down to Austin, Texas this week to tear it up at SXSW. We caught up with Reef this afternoon:

What are you most looking forward to about SXSW?
Hearing good music/terrible music with old friends and making some new friends along the way.

What do you hope to get out of playing at SXSW?
I hope to be inspired, maybe inspire, and get as many free drinks and swag as possible.

How do you plan to rep Philly at SXSW?
People know I’m from Philly before I open my mouth, I rep this fuckin’ place every time I step on stage. Also, I’ll be dressed like a mummer and plan on shooting maaaaaad people, kid!

Who are some of the other acts you’re hoping to catch at SXSW?
I’m lookin’ forward to seeing my man Brother Ali and Freeway, Bo Blizz and Eymnd, and of course the band or MC or singer who I’ve never heard of who’s gonna change my life. I’m more hype to see the unknowns than the popular acts.

What’s the best success story you’ve ever heard of that came out of SXSW?
I don’t know, I think the festival itself is bigger than one artist, but I know lives have changed because of it and that’s always a plus.

Schmoozing with music industry people: Love it or hate it?
Ohhhh I fucking hate it. That’s the last thing I’ll be doing. Luckily, I’ve got people in my camp who enjoy that type of thing and will talk to those douchebags on my behalf. I’ll be by the bar.

Ideally, what one celebrity or famous musician would you like to be in the crowd to witness your SXSW showcase?
Rosario Dawson, for obvious reasons.

Lone Star or Shiner Bock?
Got go with the Lone Star when you’re in the Lone Star I suppose. I honestly wanna just drink like whiskey and moonshine, keep it extra Texas.
