Morrissey All Set For Philly On Sunday

Despite numerous show cancellations at the beginning of his U.S. tour — and reported vocal problems when he did play — that made things seem rather dire for his Philly appearance this weekend, it now looks full-steam-ahead for Morrissey’s show on Sunday, March 22nd at the Academy of Music. Here’s a fan report from the Moz show in Pittsburgh on St. Patrick’s Day:

“First time seeing the Moz, what an amazing experience! He sounded better than he does on his albums. I was shocked about that. Alot of fans rushed the stage, security had a field day. He made a comment about it being 100 years since hes been to Pittsburgh. I heard many fans screaming ‘On the streets!’, wish he would have played it. One hell of a show.”

While I’ve not been the biggest fan of much of his post-Smiths work, Morrissey’s new Years of Refusal is a really, really good listen. And though I was skeptical of his live power at this stage of his career when I saw him on his last U.S. tour nearly two years ago in Seattle, I was, quite frankly, blown away by how good his voice was, how charismatic he still can be, and how potent his backing band was (they especially did justice to the many Smiths songs in the set). Here’s some photos I shot that night:
