SXSW: The Sonics Prove They’ve Still Got It After All These Years

Last night the Sonics brought their brand of 60s garage rock to Emos. And despite lead singer Gerry Roslie sounding a bit like Tom Jones these days, it was still pretty stellar. I ran into Ami Shalev, singer of Tel Aviv’s Monotonix, after the show and he was in awe of the performance. “How can you get better than that? It’s stripped of all the bullshit.”

The Sonics perform their first ever record, 1964’s “The Witch,” in the video above. Below are “Psycho” and a quick tour of one of three lines (badges, wristbands and cash paying customers) waiting to get in to see them.
