Who’s Set To Play Their First Philly Show In 17 Years?

Yesterday afternoon on his Facebook page, R5 Productions’ Sean Agnew promised “a totally big/crazy show announcement coming up at Midnight (at least if you like punk stuff).” Two hints Agnew provided: It was a band from the old J.C. Dobbs era, and hasn’t played in Philly since 1993.

Speculation (and a few goofy guesses) poured in …could it be Cock Sparrer? Jawbox? Fear? Circle of Shit? Minor Threat?!

The clock struck midnight…well … 12:32 or so … and it turned out to be … Screeching Weasel. We stayed glued to our computer for that? Honestly, we were never really that into the veteran Ben Weasel-led Midwest pop-punk band, which is now embarking on (if our math is correct) its fourth reunion, so the announcement was a tad disappointing for us. But surely some of you out there are tres excited about the news, which is this: Screeching Weasel will play the Trocadero on April 23rd, 2010 in what’s their only scheduled East Coast show (at least at this point). Tickets go on sale this Friday, and it’ll probably sell out pretty quick, so if you’re a fan, get on that shit!
