Confession: For weeks we’ve been listening to a stream of Freeway and Jake One’s heavily anticipated Stimulus Package exclusively. (Take that, Spoon’s Transference! You too, Vampire Weekend’s Contra!) When it comes out Feb. 16 on Rhymesayers you’re going to love “Sho Nuff” featuring Bun B, “One Thing” featuring Raekwon, and about a half dozen others. Hell, nearly every song on this thing is “Michael Jackson/Puff Daddy bad/ Strike you with a belt like your dad!” (That’s a good thing.) And instead of just googling the bit torrent on this mug, you’re going to want to do yourself a major solid and walk your ass down to CoCoNuts Music Emporium or FYE-Fridays or JP Music Sellers or whatever the hell the names of places still open and selling music nowadays are called, because the packaging of Stimulus Package is easily some of the most gorgeous design we’ve ever seen on one of these prehistoric Compact Disks. Ego Trip designer Brent Rollins put this bad boy together and it looks like a warn out wallet, complete with dollars that imagine Free and Jake as president, and credit cards that allow you to download SP instrumentals. But don’t take our word for it, have a look for yourself in the video above.
Freeway plays the Trocadero Monday, Feb. 15.
