Friday, Feb. 17
Retrograde presents: GLAM!
Hosted by the Divine Miss Jimmi, this night of 1970s glam rock will feature live entertainment from the psycho-billy rock band Cthulhu Martini, Philly’s own Creem Circus and a burlesque show inspired by David Bowie and 1970s divas like Donna Jordan starring Ms. Kiki Berlin and Firebaby. Flamboyant/androgynous attire is encouraged but not required. Should you want to be transformed into a glam rocker right on the spot, the talented makeup artists from Lady Saint’s Styledelphia Artist Academy will offer their services. A makeover will run anywhere between $15-$30, depending on how crazy you want to go with the glitter. -Nicole Finkbiner

Inspectah Deck, Writtenhouse + Kuf Knotz
One of the first instances of the Wu-Tang Clan’s self-mythologizing came when Method Man revealed secrets about the core members at the end of “Can It Be All So Simple?” on 36 Chambers. “He’s like that dude that’ll sit back and watch you play yourself,” Meth says about Inspectah Deck (pictured). Inspectah’s The Rebellion drops later this year (promising features from Nas and Snoop, with beats by RZA), but tonight he’s at the Blockley with Philly indie-rap locals Writtenhouse and the endlessly wise MC Kuf Knotz. -Elliott Sharp

John Mayall
Before Paul Green, there was John Mayall. He didn’t operate a rock school, but his band the Bluesbreakers broke in some of the biggest English rock musicians. Cream’s Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, the Stones’ Mick Taylor and three-quarters of early Fleetwood Mac called the Bluesbreakers home. Although his recorded output’s quality has grown spotty since those halcyon days, he’s remained prodigious both live and in the studio releasing more than 60 albums. Primarily an acolyte of Chicago electric blues, Mayall’s surveyed it all in his 78 years and remains a feisty performer. A few years ago, he retired the Bluesbreakers’ moniker, but he’s assembled a hot road-honed backing trio featuring Stevie Ray protege guitarist Rocky Athas. -Chris Parker
4pm and 7:30pm. $35. With Jamie McLean. Sellersville Theatre, 24 W. Temple Ave., Sellersville. 215.257.5808. st94.com
Portlandia
The comedic combination that is Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) and Carrie Brownstein (Wild Flag, Sleater-Kinney) has people talking. Need evidence? A second show was announced as the “sold out” tag was quick to attach to this event. Perhaps the coupling of show times is fitting, as Armisen and Brownstein prove the power of pairing. The two are the co-creators, writers and stars of the IFC program Portlandia. Live music and previews of second season episodes will delight fans and make converts of non-viewers. Don’t miss the chance to see the version of Portland, Ore., that the show presents during its stop here on the brief six-city tour. Audience members will be treated to personal anecdotes about the creation and inspiration of the show and its variety of eccentric characters from Armisen and Brownstein. Don’t forget to save your ticket: You can pickle that. -A.K.
