Yes, Robyn Will DJ At Voyeur In July, But No, It Doesn’t Seem Like She’ll Perform Anything With High-Kicks And Air-Punches
Not too long ago, Facebook feeds blew up when it was revealed that, after opening for Coldplay, she’d bounce from Wells Fargo and hustle up to Voyeur. Yeah, she’s opening for Coldplay two nights in a row on July 5th and 6th, and right in between, she’s sneaking in a chance to connect with her fans on a much realer level. Really, how many Robyn fans will even consider the idea of enduring a Coldplay show (and paying the ticket) just to see her open? Very few. So it seemed like she was doing us a solid by reaching out to us and offering a Center City late-night opportunity to bathe in the glow of her fabulous 32-year-old Swedishness.
Now, if any of you were at her Trocadero show two summers ago, where she shared a headlining bill with Kelis, you’ll recall how unbelievably she can work a stage. She’s high-energy. She still manages to sing her heart out. She’s limber and uses those arms and legs like few pop stars know how. However, with a little Pitchfork confirmation yesterday, it seems clear that she’ll just be spinning some discs and not really doing much else. From the Pitchfork news item, she:
“will host a series of club nights with DJ/producer Rokk. For the “Body Talk” nights, she’ll DJ “late 80s-early 90s house/pop hits and current dance music,” according to a press release, and possibly do some stripped-down performances.”
Now, the Making Time site seems confident that she’ll perform a few songs. But it IS Snacks, and it IS in the basement, and if and when the hundreds of homos and homo-friendly Robyn fans flock to the Ruby Lounge, can you imagine her having the space to kick and stretch like she must? If it’s true that she’ll do some “stripped-down performances,” does that mean she’ll sing “Jag Vat En Dejlig Rosa” from Body Talk Pt. 1 on a stool? Party-times killer, no doubt.
On another note, the newly-released and AWESOME new Scissor Sisters album is enough to get us excited about their summer concert stop in Philly at the Electric Factory. And guess what? It’s also on July 5th – the same night that Robyn will do her thing down in the basement. It is completely and totally logistically possible for one to attend the Scissor Sisters show and then B-line to Voyeur to catch both events. And right after you just celebrated the birth of our nation. Come July 6th, you’re gonna need some rest.

When will Robyn perform in Vancouver Canada were a huge fan base that lives Robyn I’m sure. She could pack any of our performance spaces and we are a major league city when? oh when?
