There Is A Bevy Of Great Things You Could Do With Your Nights This Week

SCARFACE AND SAVAGES

Tonight you could go see Scarface at the Trocadero. They’re doing a Movie Tuesday tonight, it seems, and celebrating the Al Pacino-starring masterpiece from 1983 directed by Brian De Palma (whose Passion is in post-production, a shockingly sexy woman-on-woman revenge story starring Rachel McAdams) and screenplayed by Oliver Stone. Seeing as Stone has a film he directed coming out this week called Savages, starring Blake Lively, you get a free pass for a screening of this new film.

THE ROOTS AND TALIB AT THE TLA

Another bona fide killer option for tonight is the Roots’ 4th of July party at the Theatre of the Living Arts. It’s being called a 4th of July JAM, y’all. That sounds promising already. And with the Roots, in all likelihood, backing up much of this night and many of these artists, it will no doubt be funky as hell. Ground Up and Khemist will be in the house as well, it seems, and the ticket site reports appearances from Mason and Lee Mazin, too. Thassalotta entertainment in one ticket and one night. It should be nothing short of blazing hot (literally and figuratively).

BIG GAY BOAT

Many of you young bloods have attended a dance party on the gloriously-breezy riverfront boat, the Moshulu. Yes, it turns into a club sometimes. And DJ Deejay knows how to turn it out with all the gay pop confections that you require for a truly dance-friendly party. PhillyGayCalendar teams up with Sisters to throw DOWN on the 18th Century four-mast ship. Seeing as it’s the night before the 4th, they’re being cheeky and calling it IndepenDANCE. See what they did there?

MAKING TIME RAD-B-Q WITH TANLINES

Nothing says summer (and America) like barbecues and sweaty, smoky and drinky late-night dance parties, right? Even though Tanlines (who are incredibly handsome) aren’t exactly dancefloor mavens, you know that both before and after their set, the resident Making Time DJs will be spinning house-friendly and drunk-dance music at that place Bamboo on Columbus Avenue that has a pool. Don’t be a priss. Just wear a suit or something that dries fast and jump in when you’ve danced yourself sweaty and had a few. The headliners go on at 11pm tonight.

SCISSOR SISTERS THEN ROBYN

You’re pretty much on your own for Wednesday night. But Thursday night shall be one of the queer community’s most exciting nights of the summer. Jake Shears, and his gay and gay-friendly band of merrymakers, the Scissor Sisters, shall be tearing up the Electric Factory. We assume you’ve been listening to the Magic Hour. It’s great and if you haven’t yet, you’re really foolish. This new one is MARVELOUS. And we can’t wait to see how they turn out the new tracks live. And we’re hoping Jake feels the heat and wears next to nothing (like he usually does). THEN, if you can handle it down there in the basement, Voyeur’s got a special edition of Snacks for your asses. It’s Robyn, you guys. She’s doing some kind of DJing and mild performance set and it promises to be nothing. Seriously, we have no idea what to expect – just that she’ll be in Philly, at Voyeur, down in the basement for Snacks, and probably looking fierce-as-hell and could be like 10 feet in front of you. We could only dream she’ll throw us a bone with a few high kicks.
