Check Out This Golden Retriever With Great Taste In Music: Bixby And His Picks

Bix

We recently stumbled on a Philadelphian pooch named Bixby who has a blog called Bix Picks. On the blog, he seeks out vinyl mostly, and poses confidently with his choices. Okay, let’s be real. Dogs don’t seek music for listening pleasure, right? Or at least, vinyl would be very difficult to work with as a dog. An iPod or a CD player, something that only requires a poke or a paw, might be feasible. So in reality, this is the work of Chris Mondia, who has been in a handful of bands/is a handful of bands, himself. The one we’re listening to right now is called O F T N. It’s pretty cool – a spacey and atmospheric wrapping around hiccuping beats and synthetic percussion. Every once in a while you hear the hint of a trill drum roll or a booty-poppin’ southern-style snare run. He was/is also in a band called The Green Fields. But anyway, back to the pooch.

What’s most entertaining, perhaps, are the photographs that accompany Bixby’s picks. Thing is, dogs don’t show a lot of emotion in their standing state. Yes, they can tilt their heads and raise their ‘eyebrows.’ Mostly, they whine and bark, right? So it’s funny to see Bixby lying on the floor next to a record and endorsing it in the process. Sometimes, Mondia gets him to sit still with an LP resting against his chest. Perhaps there is a deep connection between Bixby’s picks and his internal happiness.

Most recently, he chose a Madvillain instrumental set. Before that it was George Jones and Dusty Springfield. And one that we can REALLY get behind is the new Beachwood Sparks. We reviewed it a couple weeks ago and wholeheartedly agree, Bixby.
