Oh Word?: Cat Power Announces A Tour That Includes A Philadelphia Visit (Oh, And Simian Mobile Disco, Too)

Has it become a hard-and-fast requirement for big name tours to pay a visit to our fair city at this point? It’s such a thrill to continuously see email and news stories about tours that, as you scroll down and skim cities, you see Philadelphia on almost every presser.
Not sure how into Simian Mobile Disco y’all are, but, they’re an electronic-heavy duo of DJs from London. What slapped us across the face and left a mark was 2009’s Temporary Pleasures. It’s a total dance music gem. That Beth Ditto joint, “Cruel Intentions,” was one of the most insane dance-inspiring jams of the summer (three summers ago). It had a Hot Chippy/LCD Soundstyemic vibe and, really, the whole album was just plain spectacular. Well, since then they’ve been to Philly more than once and put out an LP (Unpatterns) and are working on a fall-released EP called A Form of Change. With the announcement of a new EP came the news of a North American tour and, no surprise, they’ll head up another Making Time in December (7th). Please don’t hate for bringing up winter concert dates. Please. They’ve booked nine American dates and we snagged one of em’. DAT’S RIGHT! In the meantime, you can start working it out to the title track on SoundCloud.
You guys love Cat Power, right? Her sadness and crazy-woman-power is electric and palpable. Well, she’s got a new one out called Sun, due September 4th (Matador). Today she announced a tour in its support: it starts in Miami and ends in L.A. And, once again, 11 American stops and one of em’s at our beloved Electric Factory on October 25th. Yeeeeah. Not so sure if the E Factory’s the best place for her dark gutteral wails, but, hey, we’re not going to argue that point. You can listen to a new track called “Ruin” here. It’s a little bit more Fleetwood Mac and gypsy woman than miserable maden. We think you’ll like.
