There Are Two Things At The Trocadero To Start Your Week Off Right

LA Film Review The Cabin in the Woods.JPEG-02a15.jpg

First, it’s a particularly strong Movie Monday tonight. The Cabin In The Woods is a movie that really does it for a lot of people. A modern and stylish take on the horror genre, the movie unfolds before you with suspense, gore and sex appeal. Seriously, everyone’s hot and there’s plenty of skin. One of those people is Chris Hemsworth. Just sayin’. If you’re the kind of person that likes a good chair-squeezing, hair-raising, hand-wringing suspense, this one’s for you. There are endless twists and turns and there’s an element of acknowledging the fact that a horror movie in 2012 has to be more than “Don’t go in there!” and “He’s right behind you!” The layers are many. (THE DEETS)

THEN it’s Beth Orton on Tuesday. The Brit who first came on the scene in the ’90s working with William Orbit and the Chemical Brothers, cultivated a ‘folktronica’ moment that she’s still nourishing. She put out a couple records in the ’90s that were mindblowingly good. A favorite of all time, Trailer Park, is a pleasant drift through her head. Give “She Cries Your Name” a listen and you’ll probably be like ‘Ohhhh, that’s Beth Orton?’ She’s not really a megastar (which is bull). She is giving us a new record on the 2nd of October, Sugaring Season, her first on ANTI- and first in six years. The first single is a stunning beauty (below) and you should probably grab some tickets for tomorrow night’s show because it will be a killer performance.
