DAILY GRINDER: Plastic Bag Fascism

Shocka: Bevilacqua tried to cover up priest abuse during his time in 80s Brooklyn. Or, rather, he tried to “seek an assignment outside the diocese” for a rapist priest. That priest then went on to New Jersey, where he continued torturing children. [Inky]

Daylin Leach, the hero state senator from Montgomery/Delaware counties wants to make it both within your smugness and financial incentive to use your own tote bags at Trader Joe’s. His proposed bill would place a 2-cent tax on plastic bags given to consumers by retailers. The Center for Consumer Freedom hates this idea. They claim reusable bags are filthy, contain lead and that taxes like this one create nanny states. Oh, and CCF is actually a front group for alcohol, tobacco and restaurant companies headed by lobbyist Rick Berman. [CBS/CCF]

Last night, Milton Street hung at the Democratic City Committee headquarters and spoke about his plans for job creation. He admitted he probably (ha!) won’t be endorsed, but Bob Brady seemed relatively impressed after speaking with the Street brother. And Bob Brady is all that matters, ever. [Philly Clout]

Lackawanna College established a new college to train students for Marcellus Shale development. [Pa Independent]

Philly schools claim a voucher system would cost them $40 million. As to whether that’s according to City Council or Mayoral math is yet to be determined. [Inky]

Feed the flames: Corbett says he’d sign a right-to-work bill (which would let workers choose whether or not they pay their union dues) but doesn’t think such a bill could ever make it to his desk, especially with state legislators making a habit of fleeing their states every so often. [Penn Live]

I still agree that the plastic bag tax is a terrible idea.

People are already switching to tote bags, and the market is already dictating it. Let it be, man, let it be.
