DAILY GRINDER: Corbett’s ‘Pig-Headed’ Anti-Shale Tax Policy

Philadelphia School Superintendent Arlene Ackerman received a death threat yesterday. It specifically said a bomb was going to be detonated at the district’s North Broad HQ today. No word on what, if anything, this has to do with the Inky’s ‘Assault on Learning’ series or the tussle over Ackerman wielding a chainsaw on the Daily News. We assume nothing, but leave it to Philly.com commenters to find the conspiracy.

In light of this, security’s been stepped up at the district today. [Inky]

Yeah, SEPTA is changing, at some point, but don’t necessarily expect it to be done with total competence. (Definitely don’t expect it to happen any time soon.) [Inky/Phillynow]

He’s deep in it. Governor Tom Corbett isn’t backing down on his no-tax stance on the Marcellus Shale. (Fees on behalf of local governments might be another story, of course!) And Democrats are, my God, so pissed. Delaware County Dem Greg Vitali says the governor’s acting “pig-headedly” in his refusal. Budget Secretary Charles Zogby’s all like, we’re not raising taxes, “end of story.” There’s no coming back when someone says “end of story.” [CBS]

State Senator Larry Farnese is taking on someone his own size: Bed bugs! He wants legislation that’ll make your landlord accountable for keeping his/her buildings less infested than usual. [Commonwealth Confidential]

PW contributor Daniel Danvir’s piece for Salon last week on the most segregated cities in the United States went viral upon its post. He’s got a follow up on Salon titled, “Five Myths about the 10 most segregated cities,” which is also worth checking out. [Salon]

First District candidate Joe Grace says he’s unveiling his plan “banning outside employment for sitting council members, scheduling council sessions year-round, ending nepotism, setting term limits, improving Philadelphia’s campaign finance laws, and strengthening the Ethics Board” today at noon. Council sessions year round, haha. [Some Press Release]

President B. Hussein Obama Soerto X will be in Bucks County on Wednesday, hanging at a wind turbine plant in Fairless Hills. He’s also expected to announce his run for re-election either this week or next. He may partially announce the bid by way of the Interwebs, which radiohosts say is un-American, or something. (Update: He announced.) [Inky]

It would seem the Mark Segal-Malcolm Lazin feud is far, far from over. Philly Clout accounts the challenge to Malcolm Lazin’s at-large run that seems to involve conservative lawyer Adam Taxin, liberal political consultant Micah Mahjoubian and Philly Gay News publisher Segal, all of whom (perhaps unknowingly) were involved in getting Lazin kicked off the ballot. Lazin is running as a Republican. [Philly Clout]

PoliticsPA did some kind of April Fools Day thing on Friday. It was actually pretty funny. The beauty was in both the subtlety and lack thereof:
