DAILY GRINDER: Michael Vick Condemns Dogfighting Android App

There’s an app for that! (And “that” is dogfighting.) A new, bizarre digital entertainment for your cell phone — known as “Dog Wars” — is under fire by critics, and one man is getting out of the way before any of this comes back to haunt him: Eagles quarterback Michael Vick. He’s already released a statement condemning the obscure game, which is available on Google Android. “I’ve come to learn the hard way that dogfighting is a dead-end street…Now, I am on the right side of this issue, and I think it’s important to send the smart message to kids, and not glorify this form of animal cruelty, even in an Android app,” Vick said. Hmmm. Tolls? Fees? Fine, just don’t say “taxes.” That seems to be the message coming from Harrisburg on what to do with $484 million in “unmet public transportation operating expenses.” The state is back to the drawing board, looking well past a year ago at things like tolling Interstate 80 and introducing public-private partnerships to make the plans to EZ Pass our way to a surplus seem less socialistic. And tyrannical. [PA Independent]

Eighth District City Council candidate Cindy Bass is the queen of endorsements. A short list: Mayor Michael Nutter, District Attorney Seth Williams, Fraternal Order of Police President John McNesby, the Philadelphia Inquirer and 22nd Ward Dem leader Ron Couser. [Newsworks]

Donald Trump, that guy who isn’t running for president but we’re bored, so, OK, yeah for now – gave $32,000 to former Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell in 2002/2003! OMG! But, “It seems obvious what was behind Trump’s donations; Casino business.” Oh, right. The sleaze. [Salon]

Pennsylvanians may love arson, but…uh, there is no but. Governor Tom Corbett signed a bill yesterday lifting a state mandate requiring sprinkler systems in newly constructed homes. Score one for fire. [Newsworks]

Not to be outdone by his Easter proclamation that he made a “mistake” by voting to put the U.S. in debt, Rick Santorum is back with a wild statement. This time…spin the wheel…disabled children will be denied health care under (sigh) “Obamacare.” [Politico]

The “blame game” is already starting. PA Senator Pat Toomey says if the U.S. defaults, it’ll be Treasury Secretary Geitner’s fault. The Atlantic says pointing at Geitner for a default that won’t happen anyway is “like blaming a gun for killing someone and ignoring who pulled the trigger.” Even though that’s what liberals do! Ha!
