DAILY GRINDER: NBC Has Way Too Much Fun With ‘Donald Duck Grope’ Story

The case of Upper Darby woman April Magolon who was allegedly groped by a man dressed up as Donald Duck at Walt Disney World has finally been settled. And someone at NBC Philadelphia had a lot of fun at everyone’s expense writing an article about it. Here is a real quote: “Magolon claimed that she was groped by a Disney employee dressed in a Donald Duck costume while on vacation in 2008.  Magolon accused Donald, who has an on-screen relationship with Disney character Daisy Duck, of fondling her breast.” Here is another real quote: “The complaint also said that Magolon’s vacation was ruined.” The picture they’ve got running with the article, well, just click it. The Philadelphia archdiocese has a panel on sex abuse (obviously) and the head of that panel took to the pages of Commonweal, a magazine of religion and politics edited by lay Catholics, to slam lots of people – most notably Cardinal Justin Rigali. [AP]

Michael Vick will be the commencement speaker for Philadelphia’s Camelot Schools. The children, when polled, said they wanted the Eagles quarterback above all others. But will someone please think of the children? [USA Today]

That perfectly timed Ethics Board raid of Councilwoman Donna Reed Miller’s office – here are some details: Miller endorsed Verna Tyner for the Eighth and sent the endorsement email with her Council letterhead and through her communication director’s email account. The Board requested the hard drives of four Miller staffers, but right now it sounds like they’re just probing. Always probing. [Inky]

Councilman Darrell Clarke wants you to vote for Council to create a 17-member jobs commission tomorrow. The Committee of Seventy does not. (They see it as what you may call a fucking waste…or, if you will, “another unnecessary layer of bureaucracy, permanently attached to city government.”) Tomorrow’s vote on the commission could be the first challenge in Clarke’s potential rise to the position of City Council President. This is rich. Republican State Rep. John Taylor of PA’s 177th (Northeast Philly) blames Bush and the national Republican Party for the local party’s “Philly woes.” If only it were that simple. [Daily News]

Mike Huckabee’s not running for president. That’s good for Rick Santorum, since both guys are out of control on “moral issues.” Now Rick’s just got to deal with a potential Michele Bachmann presidential run, assuming she gets past all the high school kids and one-stop-shop abortion clinics in her path to the presidency. [Politics PA]

For the 31 percent of you who may vote tomorrow (or less, since it might rain), today’s your last day to study up on your district and what you want to see from the city over the next four years. Just keep it in mind. Try to meet up with those running in your district at some point today. They’re outside, campaigning, guaranteed.
