Santorum: ‘Any Doctor Who Performs an Abortion Should be Criminally Charged’

For all his craziness, Former Pa. Sen. Rick Santorum made a strong case for himself on Meet The Press yesterday. He repeated a PhillyNow talking point that, on any and every issue, he is the standalone conservative Republican in the race, whether Republicans looking for a new, hip candidate like it or not. And that includes his no-bullshit stance on abortion.

For those without video capabilities, check out the transcript:

QUESTION: Do you believe that there should be any legal exceptions for rape or incest when it comes to abortion?

SANTORUM: I believe that life begins at conception, and that that life should be guaranteed under the Constitution. That is a person.

QUESTION: So even in the case of rape or incest, that would be taking a life?

SANTORUM: That would be taking a life, and I believe that any doctor that performs an abortion, I would advocate that any doctor that performs an abortion, should be criminally charged for doing so.

He’s still that hardcore, after all these years.

For the record, when we call Santorum’s stance ‘no bullshit,’ we more-less mean ‘No Bob Casey,’ whose “pro-life” stance of voting for Obama Justices and funding Planned Parenthood we haven’t understood since he won the 2006 election by keeping his mouth shut. While Santorum’s stances would undoubtedly be terrible for America, and illegal, the political animal Rick Santorum represents – a consistent one – would be a breath of fresh air. And it’s a sad state of affairs when any consistency looks good.

Where’s Santorum when these women need help? He’s quick to be judge, jury and executioner of the doctor but why no offer of help for the women? Is he that evil?

There seems to be a lot of people within the Republican Party that are not very fond of Santorum. It is going to be hard for him to secure the nomination, much less the presidency, without more support from within his own party.

  6. Carina says:

Really surprised by Santorum’s jump up in Iowa. Getting out there on the ground really paid off I guess.
