DAILY GRINDER: ‘Start Snitching’

Radio DJ, Star, who’s got a morning show on 100.3 The Beat has started what he’s calling the ‘Start Snitching’ campaign. He hopes passing that message along to city youth will help reduce neighborhood violence and murders. He says he’s taken on the cause personally and when asked about his street credibility with regard to the campaign, he gave this response to Globalgrind.com: “I don’t give a fuck about street credibility.” [NBC]

Oh man, was Mitt Romney fake angry yesterday. After leaving a good Philly breakfast, he gave a speech in front of an abandoned factory in Allentown. He said the factory was symbolic of the way the Obama Administration has handled the economy. “The plant [here] has been open 100 years…It survived the Great Depression, it couldn’t survive the Obama economy,” he said. The Allentown Morning Call reported of Romney’s accusations: “Lawsuits between current and former owners reveal a tangled web of debt disputes that predates the photo-op visit by Obama. Unpaid bills have piled up. Employment on the production line, which once needed about 80 workers, is down to just five union steelworkers preparing the plant for closure, a union official said.” And yet, Obama made a terrible decision going to a factory for a photo-op. Research, dudes! [PoliticsPA/Morning Call]

Presidential candidate Rick Santorum went on Fox News to shed a single tear for the rich of this country, WHO ARE TAXED TO DEATH. Speaking to Scientologist (not a relevant detail) Greta Van Susteren, Santorum’s called President Barack Obama’s press conference in which he called on the rich to pay more taxes, “the most ugly, divisive press conference I think I’ve ever seen from a president,” and that the president is ““pour[ing] acrimony onto what’s going on here in Washington, D.C.” [Death and Taxes]

Quick: name your Lt. Governor. Give up? OK, his name doesn’t matter, but remember that as you hear about all the cuts in the state budget this year, his office is getting a 74 percent funding increase. [Pittsburgh Tribune-Review]

City Council and the mayor are up for raises. Most are returning their money to the general fund or donating to various charities around the city. Only four members – Frank Rizzo, Frank DiCicco, Jack Kelly and Maria Quinones Sanchez – are keeping their raises, since they whole-heartedly deserve them (Sanchez is the only non-retiring member to keep the cash). Especially Jack Kelly. That guy really looks out for the little guy! [Heard in the Hall]

It’s July 4 Weekend and that means SEPTA is going to try to help you out for once. “From 11:30 p.m. – 12:35 a.m., 15 trains will be available from Suburban Station. Other than the post-fireworks trains, all SEPTA service will operate on a Sunday/Holiday schedule on the 4th…On July 2nd, SEPTA is adding service on the Market-Frankford and Broad Street Lines for the fireworks and concert at Penn’s Landing. Bus detours and service adjustments have been made throughout the weekend due to the Independence Day festivities.” [CBS]

    hi tao,
has anyone ever thought of or approached you about making a documentary about you? seems like it would be interesting to see interviews with you and your friends and to have a camera follow you around. not sure what the “angle” or “dramatic event” would be to give the doc “oomph,” in a “grizzly man”/”i am trying to break your heart” kind of way, but nonetheless, could see a doc about you screening at sundance or something. or it could be like a “fly on the wall” d.a. pennebaker “don’t look back” type deal, that has no plot but just follows the person during a key point in their career. any thoughts on this?
