Public Policy Polling now has former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum in a statistical dead heat with Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. Paul is at 20 percent, Romney’s at 19 percent and Santorum’s got 18 percent with a 2.7 percent margin of error. Worst of all for the Santorum haters amongst us is that of all the candidates in Iowa, Santorum’s got the highest net favorability at 60/30. His rise is officially the story of the week, as is Ron Paul’s fall. The Iowa caucuses are tomorrow.

As we wrote last week, Santorum’s rise is no shock to those paying attention and/or following GOP nomination history. He’s familiar, he follows GOP gospel and there’s nothing new for which to criticize him. Everyone knows he kind of once compared gay sex to bestiality. Plus, that’s not a liability in GOP primaries.
