Election 2012: Ron Paul Trying to Prevent Potential Santorum Surge with ‘Serial Hypocrite’ Ad
The most recent South Carolina polls have Romney in the lead at 23 percent, followed by Gingrich at 21, Santorum at 14 and Ron Paul at 13. So with that in mind, the Paul campaign seems to be attempting to bring their odd message into the fray and knock off one candidate at a time to the top. So they introduced this ad, attempting the savage destruction of Rick Santorum’s record in Washington. Watch it:
This ad hits on all very true facts, not the least of which is that Santorum helped promote the Bush spending agenda during the first six years of the 21st Century, though this is a fault only Ron Paul can really hit him on. As Santorum said Sunday night during his Tele-Townhall, “Most of the time I voted for debt ceiling increase was when we were at war. The last thing you should worry about at war is not borrowing money…that was a legitimate reason to increase the debt.” How legitimate? So much so, Santorum said he personally went looking for – and found – the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Also, according to basic Republican orthodoxy, unlimited money can and should be spent on foreign policy spending, while domestic spending should always be cut. Drowned in a bathtub, if you will. Ron Paul subscribes to part of this, but his libertarian stances put him at odds with foreign spending. As far as Santorum’s lobbying, cash-outs, being corrupt – that’s just being a member of Washington. And if you’re a Republican, no big deal: greed is good.
