Update: Rick Santorum’s New PAC To Help ‘People Left Behind’

santorum3For weeks, former Pennsylvania Senator and presidential candidate Rick Santorum had been promising a big announcement regarding his future. Then, yesterday, we were all let down when it was leaked that that announcement was the creation of his own political action committee. Now, it’s here: It’s called Patriot Voices and he says it’s dedicated to electing conservatives around the country for the forgotten American.

“What do I call winning 11 states? Just the beginning,” Santorum says in a video message on Patriot Voices’s website. “Because by staying together you and I can amplify our voices and change America. The top of that list, of course, is defeating Barack Obama and taking back the White House. But it’s also critical that we help elect conservatives all across this country and monitor everyday to make sure they stick to our conservative principles.”

Patriot Voices is not to be confused with Santorum’s super PAC: Red, White and Blue PAC, which Santorum took over after dropping out of the presidential race.

The former presidential candidate is calling for 1,000,001 people to join with him to “elect candidates who share our values and hold elected officials accountable for their actions all across this country,” as well as protect the “sanctity of life,” “traditional marriage” and

“You and I weren’t there for The American Revolution. We didn’t write the Constitution or sign the Declaration of Independence. But let’s make no mistake about it: the fight to protect faith, family, freedom…is just as critical today as it was back then,” Santorum continues on the group’s site.

As noted by Salon, Santorum follows a long line of candidates creating PACs to keep their ambitions alive after losing. Former candidates like Herman Cain, Christine O’Donnell and Sarah Palin, whose PACs have been lost causes—or, rather, in the case of Palin, it’s helped pay for her hotel stays and staff.

Santorum went on Fox and Friends this morning to talk about the PAC’s supposed influence on the “people left behind,” including those who don’t care for the “Democrats who want to make people more dependent and Republicans who don’t seem to be talking about the 70 percent of Americans who don’t go to college.”

Oddly, during the campaign, Santorum called President Barack Obama a “snob” for encouraging college and job program enrollment. After dropping out of the race, he said he regretted that attack.
