The Pennsylvania Democratic Party held a state committee meeting this weekend, in which they decided, as a whole, to come out in support of gay marriage. A motion was made by Adams County Democratic Chair Roger Lung, and was passed with, according to PoliticsPA, about 85 or 90 percent in favor. (That’s good, sure, but when does the Homo Hut start becoming a mainstay campaign stop?) They also passed a resolution to acknowledge the Republican “War on Women.” And Ed Rendell was there. He did not bash, but praised, President Barack Obama. What’s your game, Ed?

USA Today wonders if Philadelphia’s homeless feeding ban, as well as similar ordinances in other cities, might be “compassion fatigue.”

Philadelphia City Council voted last week to burn Philadelphia’s trash, sending it to a pellet-making plant in Northeast Philly, then market it to coal plants in the region. Not everyone was happy with that unanimous vote. According to a Change.org petition, “Trash burning is far more toxic and worse for the climate than coal! It’s also poisoning our food chain and polluting low-income communities of color, like the residents of Chester City just southwest of Philly, home to the nation’s largest trash incinerator.”

Meanwhile, Council is also looking to gather data on energy use in commercial buildings throughout the city to see if businesses are using too much.

About 200 people rallied on Friday against the federal health care bill, specifically the provision which requires free birth control drugs. One woman, according to this photo at Newsworks, held a sign saying, “I regret my abortion.”

A Philadelphia judge dropped the charge of “neglect of a care-dependent person” in the Philadelphia dungeon/Social Security fraud case, after saying there was no evidence the ringleader and her cohorts were the official caretakers of the people they tortured. They still face various other charges.

Philly schools will close at noon today due to “expected heat and humidity.”

Many Marcellus Shale advocates see a future Pennsylvania in which natural gas vehicles fly down the road, from here to Erie. And one of those advocates, House Majority Whip Rep. Stan Saylor, is mad that SEPTA doesn’t share this vision, yet. He called SEPTA’s plan to buy diesel-electric hybrid buses again this year “Bad management” and “politics.” He continued, saying: “I tell you, if we ever do a transportation bill, I will do everything I can to stop SEPTA from getting any more money until they change their management practices.”

An argument at PYT in the Piazza early this morning resulted in two men getting shot, one of whom is now dead.
