Democrats Out in Force As Romney Travels to Southeast Pennsylvania

romneyteesThe Chair of the Democratic Party Jim Burn hosted a conference call yesterday, mock-inviting presidential candidate Mitt Romney to the state of Pennsylvania this weekend.

“As Romney stops in small towns in PA, we can be sure that we will continue to hear more of the same empty rhetoric that we have heard as he travels around the country. He may act like he understands small town Pennsylvania, but his record shows he doesn’t. In fact, Mitt Romney is wrong on every issue for all Pennsylvanians in all communities, small or large. He was wrong when he came to West Philadelphia and said class size doesn’t matter for our students. He was wrong when he mocked a local business in Pittsburgh,” he said. Burn previously attacked Romney on his Bain Capital record alongside a Pittsburgh resident who claims to have been put out of business by Romney.

The Republican presidential candidate is making some small-town stops in Bucks County tomorrow. And to get this potential swing state ready for it, the Obama Campaign and Obama’s “Truth Team,” are going all out.

Alongside Burn was Bucks County Commissioner Diane Marseglia, who claimed “Mitt Romney doesn’t understand the values we have here in Bucks County.”

And along with yesterday’s late afternoon conference call, the campaign has sent out multiple emails attacking Romney’s record on jobs. One of including a harsh statement  from Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter:

“Today, President Obama made clear why he deserves a second term. After halting the economy from plunging into a depression, the President has laid out a blueprint for moving America forward. President Obama knows that a robust economy is not built from the top down, but from the middle class out. By investing in the middle class and protecting economic security, the President is ensuring future prosperity and putting us on a path to an America built to last. Mitt Romney is proposing failed policies that slash investments in our children’s future, let Wall Street run wild, and burden ordinary Americans in order to benefit an affluent few. The President’s speech in Cleveland today should send a resounding message to voters across the country: President Obama is moving us forward. Mitt Romney wants to reverse course.”

In addition to these attacks, Mayor Nutter and Vice President Joe Biden are hosting a call around 1:30 p.m. today. According to the campaign, “The Vice President and Mayor Nutter will contrast the path laid out by the President yesterday in Cleveland with Mitt Romney’s vision – one that centers on the same failed policies of the past that benefited a few, crashed our economy and devastated the middle class.”

As noted by Talking Points Memo yesterday, citing Philadelphia Weekly blogging, Mayor Nutter is quickly becoming President Obama’s strongest supporter. It was insinuated in the TPM piece that Nutter may be taking over for Cory Booker as Northeastern mayoral surrogate. Nutter recently taunted Romney as the presidential candidate visited a West Philadelphia charter school. The Philadelphia mayor becomes the president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors tomorrow.
