DAILY GRINDER: Jim Kenney Writes Badass Letter to Anti-Gay Chick-fil-A President

Remember what the president of Chick fil-A, Dan Cathy, said about gay marriage recently? If not, it was this: “I think we are inviting God’s judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage. I pray God’s mercy on our generation that has such a prideful, arrogant attitude to think that we have the audacity to define what marriage is about.”
I know I’m worried about God’s judgment. That dude judges! One person perhaps not as worried is Philadelphia City Councilman Jim Kenney, who wrote an open letter to Cathy, which says, among other things, “As an American you are legally entitled to your opinion, regardless of how insensitive and intolerant it may be, but as a fellow American and an elected member of Philadelphia City Council; I am entitled to express my opinion as well. So please – take a hike and take your intolerance with you. There is no place for this type of hate in our great City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection.”
And Kenney will introduce a resolution to City Council when they reconvene in the fall, condemning Cathy and the company.
As Dan Savage notes on Twitter, “Chick-fil-A doesn’t just oppose gay marriage. They oppose gay existence. Corp gives $$$ to “ex-gay” groups. It’s eliminationist homophobia.”
Meanwhile, the American Family Association of Pennsylvania (along with prominent cocky pols like Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum) have thanked Chick-Fil-A for being so God damn bigoted/awesome. AFA of PA has a message for its followers, which asks them to call the fried chicken company and thank them, go to the business and do research on the founding of the company, to learn more. Mike Huckabee wrote a Facebook note calling the restaurant great for standing up for “traditional marriage” of early 1900s America; Rick Santorum has taken to Twitter bragging about how he was currently eating at a Chick-fil-A restaurant, somewhere: “With two of my boys, Enjoying chick-in-strips and an awesome peach shake at Chick-fil-A. See you here next Wednesday!” He later added his children “like Chick-fil-A sauce on everything,” you know, just to be a dick about it.

And once again, consider this point, proven: If you want to be a right wing folk hero, all you have to do is insult people currently being denied rights, pretend “liberal bullies” are “bullying” you, or just be George Zimmerman.
The Romney campaign has tripled down on its “You didn’t build that” smear on the president. In a new email, they claim the president wants people to see his quote in context—to which they say sure, go ahead; the context is worse! (It isn’t, which is what has made, and continues to make, this smear so weird.) “President Obama claims his “you didn’t build that” quote has been taken out of context, but as you can see in this video — released by his own campaign — the quote in question is insulting and the context is even worse.” The email goes on to not specifically explain how it’s worse, just that it is, and since most wingnuts can’t look at President Obama at this point without breaking into hives, the new “context is worse!” meme should probably do the fundraising trick.
Vice President Joe Biden was in town yesterday to talk to Philadelphia’s firefighters. He noted Republicans want to cut firefighters’ budgets (Romney recently noted the president’s plan to add teachers, firefighters and police to city roles is boneheaded), but did not mention the current dispute going on in this city, between the local firefighters’ union and the Administration. Union president Bill Gaut expressed disappointment after the speech for this reason. Conservative websites are jumping for joy that he feels that way, even though their wishes for firefighters and unions in general are much worse than not coming down on a contract dispute.
Obama leads Romney, 49-43, in Pennsylvania.
Yesterday was the first day of the court challenge to the Pennsylvania Voter ID bill. It lasted about six hours and “featured a litany of stories from voters who have encountered hurdles trying to get the necessary documents to obtain a photo ID and an account of a lawyer who is trying to help some of them,” according to Pennlive.
So, I guess that we will ignore the Bible when it calls homosexuality as an abomination. No where in the Bible dose it say to hate homosexuals, but love them and share Christ with them and everyone.
That is primarily what Dan Cathy is saying. According to news accounts, he has gays on the workforce.
So why are we fighting about the way one person is running his company the way God teaches and not the way that Government (also Obama) wants to run our lives and forget the Constitution of USA that says “Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness” not enslavement by the Government.
This overreaction toward Chick-fil-A is very scary to watch. The faith haters and Christianphopes are out in force for no good reason.

At any rate, for a politician to think he can ban a private company is a very scary thought and they need to be removed from power before they target someone else.

If the Chick fil-A guy is the religious fundamentalist, why do his opponents seem like the ayatollahs?
This is just another example of a democrat who is spewing hate and intolerance in the name of tolerance. This elected official should remember that not everyone who voted him in is gay or a gay marriage supporter. Let’s hope his Chistianaphobe is denied from serving the public any longer since he feels like he can dictate who is worthy of having an opinion and expressing it freely based on his very narrow and intolerant pro-gay worldview. Coming from a gay person here the invalid arguement that gays will have rights taken away is such a lie. Gays have all the rights they need to exist currently. Anti-discrimination laws are on the books and I think it’s wrong to force marriage on those who have legally expressed their opposition. Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I am a lemming and automatically agree with what pathetic losers like Jim Kenney want me to. I make up my own mind and after 30+ years in the gay community there has been no other time until recently where gay advocates are behaving in such stupid and embarassing and close-minded ways. I guess Jim Kenney is gay and wants to make sure that no one but gays exist in his state. If that’s not the case then this d-bag needs to learn tolerance 101.
