DAILY GRINDER: Arlen Specter Has Cancer, Again
Arlen Specter has come clean on what’s wrong with him. “I’m battling cancer. It’s another battle I intend to win,” he said in a statement yesterday. Specter, a Democrat turned Republican turned Democrat, has fought cancer twice already—once in 2005, once in 2008. He says he looks forward to getting back to his regular life, and the comedy stage.
Rick Santorum spoke at the Republican National Convention last night. During which time, he repeated the Republican attack on Obama “gutting the welfare system.” In actuality, the Administration has given state governments more flexibility in imposing their welfare-to-work programs. The Romney campaign has released a dishonest ad about the program, as well. They have said they won’t be bothered by fact-checkers.
Speaking of which, the Obama Campaign has been sending out “live blog”-like updates during the RNC, which include Fact Checks on each speaker’s speech. Regarding Santorum’s welfare attack, the email cited the Philadelphia Daily News, New York Times and others, who’ve noted the Romney campaign’s untruth regarding the welfare-to-work program.
During a press conference yesterday, Mayor Nutter declined to note how much the Made in America festival would cost the city, and did not discuss the potential for violence at the festival, either. He did note, however, that people who don’t have a ticket shouldn’t show up on the Parkway this weekend, because “It will be a tremendously muffled sound, and you won’t be able to see anything.”
District Attorney Seth Williams says he may file charges against Josh Albert, who had put up a Facebook page called “I Support Chancier McFarland & Rafael Jones.” “At first blush, it seems it was actually possible he [Albert] was soliciting people to kill police,” Williams said. “We’re going to investigate that.”
Being as Albert was once a member of Occupy Philadelphia and was present at the group’s eviction (he was interviewed by Philadelphia Weekly in an article about said eviction) at least one conservative website is labeling him as such as more national sources begin reporting on Albert’s “Kill Mitt Romney” Facebook page. Specifically, they note since Albert was once a member of Occupy Philly, his “little lark” is being ignored by the Obama Administration, because the Administration believes what the group believes, of course. Meanwhile, a former Marine was once taken to a psychiatric unit over his own Facebook posts. “Now a former Marine is shoved into a police car in violation of his constitutional rights while an Occupier with an arrest record and a bona fide threat against a presidential candidate is protected,” reads the article. Both Albert and Occupy Philadelphia have publicly noted he is not affiliated with the group.
