Watch This Video of a Philly Cop Punching a Woman in the Face [UPDATED]
You will probably be seeing the below clip all over the Internet today. Here’s a video shot at yesterday’s Puerto Rican and Latino Heritage Day, showing a Philly police officer punching a woman in the face, from behind, before proceeding to arrest her.
The video was uploaded by YouTube user Gisela Valentin yesterday. The parade took place on the Ben Franklin Parkway, though this video appears to have been filmed at the corner of Fifth and Lehigh streets. It’s unclear what, exactly, the woman did to warrant the hit. This slow-motion GIF shows her spraying something, perhaps Silly String, beforehand. It appears the police were also sprayed with water, too, though not by the woman in question.
UPDATE: According to NBC 10, the woman was “cited for spraying silly string at officers who were conducting a vehicle stop near the parade route … Internal Affairs is investigating the incident, according to police.”
UPDATE 2: The police officer who hit the woman has been identified as Lt. Jonathan Josey II, a highway patrol supervisor, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

this is such bullshit! a woman sprays a cop with silly string, and he punches her in the face?! this “officer” better get suspended!
Philly’s got to have the toughest cops in the country – amiright?
In these days of everything being caught on video; common sense has fallen by the wayside!! If you actually take the time to watch this video closely; you can see the woman stepping on a rolling can of silly string that’s on the street. She steps on it with her left foot and goes off balance; seconds before that, the officer in white shirt, takes a defensive stance while attempting to grab the can away from the woman (not knowing that she stepped on a rolling can that she previously kicked and was off balance.) Common sense: 1.Watch the video when the woman is jumping up & down after she finished squirting the officer in white shirt. 2. Watch how the woman kicks a can of silly string that’s in the road. 3. The can is still rolling as she steps on it. Now watch the officer in the white shirt. 1. He’s hit with what appears to be some sort of liquid. 2. He sees the woman jumping up & down with a can in her left hand. 3. He takes a defensive stance (you can tell by the distance between his legs as he somewhat squats down.) 4. Don’t look at the woman, just the officer, his body lunges to grab the can from the woman. 5. Look at the officer’s body going up in the air. COMON SENSE CONCLUSION: It was an accident! The officer DID NOT punch the woman! And YES, the police were in the right to arrest her. AND they should have charged her with battery on a Law Enforcement Officer as a FELONY!
Look at the video closely, the girl got punched for something she didn’t do. Some putz threw liquid while he/she was in-line with the woman. The cop got hit and she was who he saw in that direction. The effin cop went after her and cracked her then looked at something on his hand. Cop or no cop, right or wrong, I would have put a good size lump on that asshole’s head if I was nearby. Effin jerk. Talk about police brutality.
Big tough man punching that poor girl in the face. I hope this useless cop reads this. F U u piece of sh$t. I really hope she sues you for every penny u have. And to all you other useless cops out there f u too! So glad this was caught on cam. Bullies in uniform. Makes me want to drive down there and kick that sorry excuse for a cops teeth out.
Yup, what GJ said. 2 seconds in to the video you clearly see someone else is spraying the silly string while the victim is walking close to the police trying to get pictures. She looks around to see where the string came from and BAM, dumb pig smacks her out. She even had the stuff in her hair ffs. Fucking moron pigs.
You can see pretty clearly ay :02 that someone (guy in black shorts and black shoes on far left of screen) throws what seems to be liquid and not silly string. I think it was the liquid not the silly string that pissed of the cop who hit her. She took a HIT for the a-hole who threw the liquid. That cop needs to be suspended and he needs to personally and sincerely apologize to the woman he hit.
This cop should get 10 times the same brutal punishment and the police department must pay for having crazy cops with them.
There are always procedures, something, these cops, should learn during their training period and from the years of experience. Or what type of training they are receiving nowadays?
All I can say is lawsuit.
After driving through north Philadelphia on the day of the parade, I’m surprised worse things didn’t happen. Streets are illegally blocked with cars, cars are racing down roads like Roosevelt blvd with enormous flags tied to their cars and people hanging out the windows, lots of people are drunk and walking everywhere. The police definitely looked like they were in “riot mode” which is what often leads to unnecessary acts of violence like what we saw in the video. I’m not exactly sure what role the police are supposed to be playing at the parade but it seems like an unnecessary use of so many police on a day that’s supposed to be celebratory.
