DAILY GRINDER: After Debate, Mayor Nutter Calls Romney ‘Make Believe Mitt’

nutter cnnMayor Nutter had a thing or two to say about Mitt Romney after last night’s debate. Here are parts of a Nutter transcript sent last night from the Obama Campaign (italic emphasis mine):

“Tonight we also saw the real Mitt Romney—not the phony ‘moderate Mitt’ we’ve seen in recent days, spewing lies that Americans with pre-existing conditions will be covered after he repeals Obamacare, pretending he has a plan to pay for $5 trillion in new tax breaks slanted towards millionaires and outsourcers, or pretending he won’t raise taxes on middle-class families by $2,000…

“We heard the self-professed ‘severely conservative’ Mitt who wants to ‘get rid’ of Planned Parenthood and gut funding for Pell Grants—the guy who was caught on tape behind closed doors with fellow millionaires deriding nearly half the country as freeloaders not worth ‘worrying’ about. The real Mitt Romney’s plan to restore the failed policies of the past that would be devastating for the middle class today…

“President Obama understands the issue of violence in cities like Philadelphia, while Mitt Romney has never acknowledged that. ‘Make Believe Mitt’ showed up at the debate tonight—and the President showed him what someone who really cares about the middle class looks like.”

At times, last night’s townhall-style debate was hard to watch (especially, I imagine, if you are a Romney supporter.) The Republican candidate had obviously been keeping up way too much with the Drudge-Fox-Breitbart echo chamber and it showed (he brought up the Obama apology tour, Hillary wearing the pants, raising money instead of dealing with Libya attack, etc., all factless right wing memes)—and the problem is, when the echoes prove wrong, there’s no one to blame because each article is a reconstructed, re-spun tale of the last, with more conservative buzzwords! Either way, the website Buzzfeed says this is where Obama won the debate (and we always believe them, what with their listicles and all):

I got an email from the Tom Smith campaign yesterday with the subject, “We beat Bob Casey!” Say what? I said. Did I fall asleep, wake up three weeks later (likely with no job), and, in that time, Smith had beat Casey in the Pennsylvania U.S. Senate race? I looked around and the answer was no. In fact, according to the email, Smith has beaten Casey only in bringing in money in third quarter fundraising. That’s impressive, I thought, until I realized Tom Smith just loaned his own campaign $10 million of his vast, vast fortune. Was that little factoid in the campaign email? Haha, no.

Maybe you heard conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia got a parking ticket yesterday? It happened, and is pretty awesome. And not just because it’s Justice Scalia. Because next time you get one, just remember the PPA is not out to get you, young driver of cars! They are an equal opportunity offender. Their misanthropy knows no political party nor position of power! If America were like them, with a vast hatred for all, we’d truly be great.

Philadelphia is getting a cool (approximate) $1.3 million check due to the Marcellus Shale Impact fee. Let’s buy a boat!

Polls:

Ever hear of YouGov? We only sort of have! But they have a new poll out showing Obama leading Romney 51-44.

Quinnipiac has Obama up 50-46.

Aside from raising taxes (real estate and sales taxes) a total of three times during a recession, what has Nutter done for Philadelphia? Job growth is non-existent, population growth is tiny, our business tax base is shrinking, and homeowners face the very real prospect of being taxed out of their homes via AVI.
