Obama Wins Pennsylvania

MSNBC called Pennsylvania for Democratic Senator Bob Casey at around 9:10 p.m. Five minutes later, they declared President Barack Obama the winner of the commonwealth.

The crowd at the Obama Victory Party at the Warwick Hotel in Center City immediately began celebrating.

The celebration was quick and loud, but no one seemed too surprised.

Brother Fred Tookes, an Obama supporter from North Philadelphia, says he spent the day at the campaign headquarters on 15th Street in Center City.

“I was expecting a win,” he says, “but not by this margin. And not this early. Romney really hit the state.”

Tookes spent the day phone banking for the Obama campaign. He says several voters called the campaign headquarters back after being turned away from the polls over Voter ID confusion. He says he and other phone bankers asked them to go back and re-explain their situation.

One volunteer at the party, with Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders For Obama said he expected Pennsylvania to work out in Obama’s favor, but believes people coming out in places like Harrisburg, Scranton and other small cities throughout the state deserve as much credit as Philadelphia.

“Romney had the edge for a while,” he said. “It’s amazing Obama pulled through so quickly.”

The man, who asked to remain anonymous, is optimistic about the next four years.

“Obama’s strength is with the people,” he said. “The people have always believed in him. And these states [Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, which have thus far been called for Obama] speak for themselves … He reformed health care, Wall Street, and that’s what America wanted.”

The politicians on hand, Rep. Schwartz, Fattah and Mayor Nutter spoke around 9:40 p.m. Schwartz said Republicans “better begin” working with President Obama.

One Response to “ Obama Wins Pennsylvania ”

  1. If Obama loses this election, you can blame/thank the Right for bamboozling him. How is it ethical that an entire news network questions the President’s citizenship for four years to create doubt in voters while a fringe element of the far right demonizes and degrades him? Most of this is financed by the rich who want to keep their stranglehold on the flow of wealth in our country.
