Philadelphia’s most famous cop killer may have become this year’s Willie Horton in a Bucks County Congressional race, but while the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee was busy scaring up rural and suburban voters, the man himself was getting ready for yet another appeal to his now-life sentence. The notice of appeal was filed in the Pennsylvania Superior Court and accepted for review on Halloween. Read it here.
Abu-Jamal spent the last 30 years on death row and was transferred to General Population in late January 2012. This came after an announcement by District Attorney Seth Williams earlier that month that he would no longer seek the death penalty for Abu-Jamal, who was convicted of killing Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner in 1982.
