Listen to PW Senior Editor Nina Hoffmann on WHYY Today
As part of the ongoing coverage of Philadelphia Weekly’s Survivors’ Project, Senior Editor Nina Hoffmann and her husband Joel will join Voices in the Family host Dan Gottlieb to discuss how male victims of sexual abuse recover and thrive in today’s society.
According to the show’s description, “Victims are more likely to suffer PTSD, anxiety disorders, and depression than those who have not been abused, and they’re 80 percent more likely to have problems with drugs and alcohol in adulthood. Exposure to sexual trauma can lead to risk-taking behavior during adolescence such as running away or other delinquent behaviors. Empowering male survivors to put their lives back together is a process that takes time.”
Nina and Joel will be joined by Dr. Howard Fradkin, author of Joining Forces: Empowering Male Survivors to Thrive, to discuss and understand what men, specifically, go through while struggling to get their lives back after abuse.
The show will air today at 12 p.m. on 90.9 FM. Or, you can listen online here.
