NRA Launches New Campaign Targeting Black People

The NRA has launched a new advertising campaign that targets urban black men.

The ads feature a guy named “Mr. Colion Noir.” We know little about Noir except that he is an “urban gun enthusiast” and “budding attorney” from Houston, Texas who has carved out quite a niche for himself in the YouTube gun enthusiast world.

The NRA teased the campaign with a “coming soon” video last Friday. View the video here.

“No one wants to fight for protection, they want the government to do it,” Noir says in the clip. “The same government who at one point hosed us down with water, attacked us with dogs and wouldn’t allow us to eat at their restaurants and told us we couldn’t own guns when bumbling fools with sheets on their heads were riding around burning crosses on our lawns and murdering us.”

The NRA officially welcomed Noir to the team yesterday. From NRAblog:

Noir burst on the internet scene thirteen months ago with a video on his Every Day Carry (EDC) inventory. A wallet, an iPod, car keys, and a GLOCK 36. Over time, they morphed into an engaging collection of commentaries on gun related issues of the day.

“I think at the end of the day, when we start thinking about the policies and the things we want to implement in this society to make us safer, we need to look at the hard core facts, not manipulating people’s emotions,” says Noir in one of his YouTube videos. “That gets us no where. Especially when the things that you’re trying to implement aren’t going to do anything but make it worse for the law abiding citizens of this country.”

Noting that he already had “haters” since the video dropped, Noir attempted to clear the air regarding who he is and just what’s what on his Facebook page yesterday: “It amuses me how after the NRA video dropped I am all of a sudden a puppet, token black guy, 15 min of fame seeker, etc etc. They fail to realize every clip in that teaser was a video I already did months ago on my channel before ever being in contact with the NRA. #SMH get it together people. Every single thing I say is my own words, every single thing you will hear me say will be my own words. To all my supporters I thank you. This issue is sooooooo much bigger than me. Let’s stay focused and continue the course.”

As David Cole, professor of Constitutional Law and Criminal Justice at the Georgetown University Law Center recently noted in the New York Times, it’s impossible to examine the history of American gun laws without discussing issues of race:

“The history of gun regulation is inextricably interwoven with race. Some of the nation’s most stringent gun laws emerged in the South after the Civil War, as Southern whites feared what newly freed slaves might do if armed. At the same time, Northerners saw the freed slaves’ right to bear arms as critical to protecting them from the Ku Klux Klan.

In the 1960s, Huey P. Newton and the Black Panther Party made the gun a central symbol of black power, claiming that “the gun is the only thing that will free us.” On May 2, 1967, taking advantage of California’s lax gun laws, several Panthers marched through the State Capitol in Sacramento carrying raised and loaded weapons, generating widespread news coverage.”

While the NRA strives to make a young urban black male the new face of gun rights, that demographic is already the face of gun violence — the vast majority of victims being young black men. In 2008 and 2009, gun homicide was the leading cause of death among black teens, according to a report issued last year by the Children’s Defense Fund.

In Philadelphia, 84 percent of murder victims last year were killed by gunfire. Of those, 72 percent of those victims are black and 46 percent were 25 years old or younger.

I just watched some of this guy’s videos. He comes across as smart and articulate. I don’t see him being used as some type of pawn by any stretch. He actually represents a fairly decent segment of the population that believes in the right to self-defense, including myself. I consider myself to be pretty progressive, and yes, I’m a gun rights supporter as well. Progressive implies “progress.” Government’s telling us how we can best protect ourselves and our loved ones is not progress in my view, it’s a step backward. Government is their to protect our rights. If I was afforded the opportunity to have a cop or bodyguard follow my every step, I’d put down my firearms. Until then, I think I’ll keep carrying, since you never know where danger might befall you. This idea that gun-carrying equals paranoia is ridiculous. It’s no different than keeping a fire extinguisher in the home or wearing a seatbelt while driving. People need to wake up and realize that we live in a dangerous world, and no amount of “gun control” is going to keep you safe from those who aim to cause you harm.

That’s great. I can’t wait to see him “defend” himself next time he’s pulled over by a hostile policeman, profiling him based on skin color. And think, if only Trayvon Martin had been armed when he was being stalked by George Zimmerman in Florida. Would he be given the benefit of the doubt the way Zimmerman has? Unlikely. The idea that if someone is armed they are somehow safer is laughably illogical; and the idea that we need more guns in our city’s black neighborhoods is just dangerously irresponsible.

I commend Mr. Colion Noir for his honest and right to free speech and standing for self preservation. If you defend yourself and have a permit your the one that will be found innocent in the court of law.If you are attacked by a perpetrator . Your defending yourself legally. What ever your race is. The laws are put into place for a reason. It’s called tell the truth. Carry legally. Educate… The NRA has championed rights of any individuals along time ago. All race colors and creeds. If you are a law abiding citizen it is your right. Profiling is simple. You commit a crime your not a law abiding citizen. You can’t own a fire arm. If you don’t have a record no matter what race you are. Your given the right to bear arms with the proper Licence issued by your State. All men are created equal. Laws are put in place for a reason. Exercise your right. Protect yourself

right after the civil war ended, the nra gave guns to black people and taught them how to use them to defend themselves against kkk members trying to kill them bc at the time, black people were not allowed to own guns. why? bc white people felt superior to blacks and wanted to CONTROL them and keep them in fear and make sure they did as they were told. the government is trying to do the same thing to us. once the blacks had guns to defend themselves, the rate and numbers of murders dropped dramatically. people need to wake up and pay attention to history. the nra has always had a good relationship with the black community. theres a video of a group of black people thanking the nra for arming blacks then and saving peoples lives…

SUSPICIOUS WHITE HIRE AGAIN AND AGAIN SUSPICIOUS BLACK SHOT DEAD

Understandably, the mere mention of the term, racial profiling conjures up all kinds of negative images, with just as many definitions. There was a time when it was standard operating procedure for police to pull over drivers based solely on race. Some will argue the practice still exists.AND IT DOES!!!! Besides the intrusion, annoyance, financial inconvenience, and injustice, many times those random stops ended up tragically. I THOUGHT HE OR SHE HAD A GUN”“” BLACK PERSON DEAD!!!! It is more commonly called “Driving While Black,” DWB because a disproportionate number of the illegal police stops were of black drivers. If a police officer is challenge in court they just respond he or she look suspicious! CASE LOSTS!

A black person that is seen as suspicious by American police officers can end in death of that black person! WWB-(Walking While Black) can be the reason for suspicious black person! Even black people that are seen as suspicious ( by non-authority white people) may end in murder by white civilians! George Zimmerman the self appointed “Watch Captain” told the police dispatcher that Trayvon Martin. A 17 year old black male walking home from a store looked suspicious! Later Zimmerman stalked and murdered Trayvon Martin. Suspicious is all it takes for someone white to call police or kill a black person. Amadou Bailo Diallo was a 23-year-old black immigrant from Guinea who was shot and killed in New York City on February 4, 1999 by four white New York City Police Department plain-clothed officers:

Sean Carroll, Richard Murphy, Edward McMellon and Kenneth Boss, who fired a combined total of 41 shots, 19 of which struck “UNARMED” totally innocent Diallo, outside his apartment at 1157 Wheeler Avenue in the Soundview section of The Bronx. The four were part of the now-defunct Street Crimes Unit. All four officers were acquitted at trial in Albany, New York. Their mistaken identity of Diallo was excuse. Which all started because one officer claimed Diallo look suspicious! Now check out how suspicious whites are handle in America READ ON:

Charles Edmund Cullen is a former white male nurse who is the most prolific serial killer in New Jersey history and suspected to be the most prolific serial killer in American history. White on white crime is an understatement for the likes of Cullen! He originally told authorities he killed up to 40 patients during the course of his 16-year nursing career. But in subsequent interviews with police, psychiatric professionals, and journalists Charles Graeber and Steve Kroft, it soon became clear that he had killed many more, whom he could not specifically remember. Experts have estimated that Charles Cullen may ultimately be responsible for some 400 murders, which would make him the most prolific serial killer in American history. Being white greatly helped Cullen. Just about every where Cullen worked he was suspicious of wrong doing. But law enforcement was “NEVER” called or informed!

In America white people are seen as less likely therefore whites get away with killing stealing etc….Many white crimes are not recorded white Doctor nurses police officers that are irresponsible or abuse their authority. Seldom are fire discipline or reprimand and allowed to be re-hire! Five hospital fire or asked Cullen to leave! Even after catching him red handed stealing drugs. Cullen was given the opportunity to resign from “Saint Luke Hospital and get re-hire at another institution and murder again! There is a big different when blacks are seen as suspicious then whites seen as suspicious!
