pwcalendarHey there. I’m totally a day late on your weekly civic meeting schedule—but no worries; you only missed Monday. Plus, it was April 1st, and you may have been all “This civic meeting is probably just an April Fool’s joke” or something. Or not.

Anyway, over the course of the week, several active neighbor associations (especially those in South Philly) will hold general and zoning meetings. Plus: City Council is putting together that pesky FY 2014 budget. As usual, email civics@philadelphiaweekly.com to get your listing in here.

Tuesday, April 2

City Council. The Committee of the Whole of Philadelphia City Council will continue a public hearing to adopt a fiscal budget for Fiscal Year 2014.

Zoning Committee Meeting. The Queen Village Neighbors Association will hold a zoning committee meeting to discuss construction around the neighborhood.
7:30pm. Weccacoe Playground Building, 400 Catherine St. qvna.org

General Meeting. The Passyunk Square Civic Association will hold its monthly first-Tuesday meeting.
6:30pm. Passyunksquare.org

Lecture on Drug Policies. The eastern State Lecture Series on Urban Crime will hold a lecture on drug policies and their effect on urban communities.
7pm. Eastern State Penitentiary, 2027 Fairmount Ave.

Book reading. Blaine Harden will read from Escape from Camp 14: One Man’s Remarkable Odyssey from North Korea to Freedom in the West. According to its description “The book illuminates the world’s most repressive totalitarian state through the shocking story of Shin Dong-hyuk, one of the few people born in a North Korean prison camp to escape and survive.”

Wednesday, April 3

Outreach Committee Meeting. The Newbold Neighbors Association will hold an outreach committee meeting to “brainstorm ideas on how to increase positive awareness about the organization and the services we provide.”

AVI Meeting. There will be an Actual Value Initiative meeting in the Point Breeze section of the city to educate local residents.
6:30pm. Yesha Fellowship Hall, 2301 Snyder Ave.

Zoning Meeting. The South of South Neighborhood Association will discuss zoning issues and neighborhood projects.
6:30pm. SOSNA office. 1901 Christian St. southofsouth.org

Zoning Committee Meeting. The West Passyunk Neighbors Association will meet to talk about the demolition and erection of construction around that neighborhood.
7pm. 1st District Police Station, 2301 S. 24th St.

Library Meeting. The Friends of Torresdale will hold a library meeting.
6:30pm. Torresdale Library, 3079 Holme Ave.

Thursday, April 4

City Council. The Committee on Rules will meet to amend the Philadelphia Zoning maps.

Community Impact Meeting. The South of South Neighborhood Association will hold a meeting to plan community events.

Board Meeting. The Queen Village Neighbors Association will hold a general board meeting.

Civic Association Meeting. The Frankford Civic Association will hold a general meeting.

Friday, April 5

Book reading. Bill “Ready” Cash will read from Thou Shalt Not Steal: The Life and Times of a Rifle-Armed Negro League Catcher.

City Council. The Committee on Licenses and Inspections will meet to discuss several tax laws and requirements for displaying contractor licenses, among other things.
