Dead Milkmen Frontman Rodney Anonymous Wins PW’s Mayor Madness 2013!
That’s right, people. Thousands of you voted and came to one obvious conclusion: Never doubt the aging punk rocker demographic. Dead Milkmen frontman, music critic and notorious tweeter Rodney Anonymous has won our first-ever Mayor Madness elimination tournament! Sorry, Bill Cosby. We still love you! But not as much as we love this dude!
Anon’s official statement:
First, I would like to thank my wife, the other members of the Dead Milkmen, and all of the improperly medicated people who voted for me. Now, with your indulgence, there are a few things I need to get off my chest:
1. Our current mayor, whose name escapes me at the moment, is a horse’s ass for vetoing the Mandatory Paid Sick Leave Bill. Let’s never let him forget this, even if it means we have to interrupt all of his future speeches with loud coughing and sneezing sounds (that should give a whole new meaning to “Green Party”).
2. Dear PW, City Paper, Philebrity, Phawker, et al.: Not every band is a quirky banjo and tuba duo from Brooklyn who are playing at the Union Transfer/World Café/Johnny Brenda’s this weekend. For every Best Coast/Beach House/She & Him show you’ve spent 1,000 words creaming yourselves over, there was a superior Suicide Commando/Angelspit/iVardensphere show which you completely ignored. C’mon folks, you’re better than this.
3. Speaking of music, below are my picks for best music of 2012. The City Paper, where I’m a music critic, wouldn’t run them; so I managed to get them listed in the PW. This makes me the only mayor in the history of our beautiful city to actually accomplish something on his first day in office:
Assemblage 23 – Bruise
Amanda Palmer & The Grand Theft Orchestra – Theatre is Evil
Rome – Hell Money
Angels on Acid – Exile
Caustic – The Man Who Wouldn’t Stop
Dead When I Found Her – Ragdoll Blues
DarkDriveClinic – The Covers
Aaimon – Flatliner
Cenotype – The Hour Before
Grendel – Timewave: Zero
PS. Let’s elect Cheri Honkala as our real mayor in 2015!
