More evidence that Andy McCarthy is completely insane

He writes 717 words about how the sporting press is clearly in the tank for Obama, based on their coverage of his first pitch at the All Star Game. His paranoia, grievance and fact-free speculation know no bounds.

Sour grapes alert

Over at The Corner, my nemesis Andy McCarthy says something stupid. Again:

It is a sad but true commentary on today’s Democratic Party that Democrats were never going to get serious about the war unless they were responsible and accountable for it.  The first nauseating step in that transformation has to be that the MSM discovers, years after the fact, that Islamic militants really do want to kill us.

I think everybody realizes that Islamic militants want to kill us. We were all here for 9/11.

But unlike McCarthy, there’s a lot of us who don’t want to make a wholesale sacrifice of American ideals to defend against that threat. Unlike McCarthy, we don’t lump all (or even most) Muslims in with the militants. Unlike McCarthy, we recognize there are some people who might be inclined to attack us — but who might be convinced to leave us alone. Unlike McCarthy, we’d like to draw those distinctions so that we don’t make matters worse. And unlike McCarthy, we recognize that not everybody accused of terrorism is necessarily a terrorist.

But some are. And we have to deal with them in a firm and decisive way. Democrats believe that just as much as Republicans, despite McCarthy’s stunning, un-American foolishness. He’s a good argument to vote for Obama, all by himself — nobody in a Democratic White House will be silly enough to listen to that little man. But somebody in a McCain administration might, and probably would.

Today’s Andrew McCarthy Award winner is … Andrew McCarthy

I’m re-naming the “silliest thing a conservative has said today” feature. From now on, it will be called the “Andrew McCarthy Award,” named for the National Review writer who seems like he ought to be smart –he’s a lawyer! writing for National Review! — but mostly just sounds hysterical and, at times, willfully ignorant.

Anyway, here he is today:

There should no longer be any dispute that Barack Obama’s aim is to socialize the American economy

Well, sure there is. I’m not aware of any Obama plans to start nationalizing industry. (And it’s always worth pointing out that it’s the Bush Administration that’s bailing out the banks and auto industry.) Even Obama’s health care plan relies largely on the existing private, employer-based insurance. Obama may want to help poor people — which seems to be McCarthy’s main problem — but real socialists wouldn’t recognize him.
