Project Runway Episode Seven: Sponsored by Saturn

The product placement in Project Runway has always been a little … heavy-handed. Constant references to the Bluefly accessories wall and Loreal cosmetics are one thing. Even the weekly snippets of Saturn-inspired designs during the commercial breaks are acceptable. But having an entire challenge clearly sponsored by one of the show’s key monetary supporters? We were a little skeptical.

Turns out, we were just being bitchy. (Surprise, surprise.)

This was an awesome challenge: design a garment using only recycled car parts. How deliciously green. You could practically feel all those wannabe fashionably unique girls carrying seatbelt bags gnashing their teeth in horror.

As the challenge began, Tim Gunn reminded the designers how much they sucked during the first challenge of the season, the only other episode to include non-traditional materials.

Most of the designers used seat belts, but considering it was a choice between that and carburetors, we can’t blame them. Tim Gunn didn’t seem to mind and neither did the judges. Though, we’ve got to say that this was probably the least colorful challenge in Runway history. So much khaki!

Heidi & co. went ga-ga over Korto’s poofy seat belt jacket. To which we say: pssssht. Even though we’ve got mad love for our Liberian girl, we’re so effing sick of the same basic shape. Last time she made something like this, Tim told her it looked like a giant sweet potato.  This time she designed a baked potato and we give it big thumbs down.

A few weeks ago, a fellow Project Runway fan and professional Village Person impersonator Adam shared that he referred to Jennifer as “Frumpy” and LeAnne as “Frumpy with Bangs.” There’s nothing we love more than a catty nickname and planned to use “Frumpy with Bangs” often. However, LeAnne’s been awfully unremarkable lately.

That is, until tonight. When she stopped sucking and won. Her sexy (decidedly unfrumpy) mini-dress was creative and well-executed. Kudos, LeAnne!

Keith, who proved himself to be a major cocksucker in the workroom tonight, lost. We didn’t hate his outfit, but it was pretty plain Jane.

But, really, the designs are a sidenote in tonight’s episode, because we learned the best thing ever in Project Runway history. Stella’s dating a guy named Rat Bones. Let that sink in for a moment. May the giggling commence!

And as a final note: What the hell is wrong with the models this season? Kenley’s dropped out tonight and Joe’s dropped out a few eps back. Something smells fishy ’round the Bravo studios.
