Halloweenies
It’s absolutely true, dogs double as kids. And when not espousing design advice or cluing you in to the best sales, I moonlight as an obsessed mom.
My kids particularly love dress-up (see above, that’s their Christmas photo from last year) and Halloween is a big deal. The good costumes sell out fast so, quick, get yourself to a keyboard and place your internet orders! This year our house is all about action films and we’re going with The Joker (from Dark Knight) and Indiana Jones.

Dress you up in my love
Philadelphia, I’ll be doing my part to keep your pockets full and your wardrobes bursting at the seams. I want to be wowed by this city’s fashion savvy so I’m doing my part. I’ll keep you updated on the sales that get us ready for colder months and you catch a few episodes of Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style.
Today BCBG (1601 Walnut St) is rewarding loyal customers with $100 of $300 of regularly priced merchandise. Use coupon code FALLCHECK08 for online purchases or print out a coupon for instore purchases here.
Feeling nippley?

If you’ve been to the Schuylkill river trail recently you’ve seen plenty of overachievers training for the Philadelphia Marathon.
As their sweaty bodies trot by you probably aren’t in tune to one painful fact: their nips are burning like fire. 26.2 miles of friction can make pokey nips raw, burn, and even bleed. It’s awkward. So awkward that even The Office employed the gag in a season 4 episode.
Runners, protect yourself against nip burn with NipGuards, available at Athletic Shoe Shop (3607 Old Easton Rd) in Doylestown.
The ole Swatcheroo
An ad in Nylon reminded me that Swatch is still out there, banging out pop designs for your wrists. It’s been a while for me; back to the days when it was cool to wear 3 or more of their color-blocked styles at a time, each with its own Swatchguard.
Swatch’s Fall/Winter 2008 collection is out and it’s a good mix of the cartoon inspired designs you’d expect as well as several funky jewelryesque pieces. I’m particularly wowed by the art deco “Forever Simple” (second from right) watch.
Man on the street
If you’ve never listened to Bill Cunningham pontificate over a stream of slice-of-life images, you’ve really missed out.
It’s my fashion duty to share one of his recent audio slide shows with you entitled “Lanky”. Here, he muses over the changes he’s seen in male fashions, transitioning from the sculpted bodies of gym rats to the slim fit fashions of 20somethings. It really is A MUST SEE.
Freeze Frame

This Saturday Walgreens will be snapping shots of your furry friends to benefit the Best Friends Animal Society.
$5.99 gets a pet photo shoot, photo CD, pet treats and photo coupons. And, in a very generous pet-friendly gesture, $5 is donated back to Best Friends.
Not all Walgreens are participating so click here for a full list of locations in Pennsylvania.
Hotel it on the mountain

For a mere $270, this gold plated cast of bananas could be yours! Sure, it’s not the most practical bowl; it won’t hold your loose change or keys. But I’m certain it’s a great cradle for bananas.
Harry Allen makes this gem and other cast objects (you’ve seen his pig piggy bank, I’m sure) but doesn’t hawk the wares on his website. For your bunch of bananas, you’ll have to do your shopping at the W Hotel.
Weird, right? The W online store carries everything your fashion savvy man, woman or home could want. For the price conscious, check out the W’s Warehouse Sale.
One man’s trash…

A Stella Steal
Stella McCartney’s line for LeSportsac is both fun and sophisticated. Crazy prints (like the one above) are balanced by neutral color blocking in her Spring/Summer 2008 collection.
When they premiered earlier this year, the bags weren’t in every girl’s budget. But now all of Stella’s Spring/Summer items are 75% off sale. And though it’s great that Stella bring us a new line each season, there’s no shame in scoring one of these for fall. The solid colors in the summer line are very fall appropriate.
So swipe that credit card and feel good about your savvy purchase! These pieces are truly fashion meets function; the fabrics are made from 100% recycled materials.
