Overstock Overdrive

This weekend was spent helping some friends pick out furnishings for their new home. Just like the rest of us, they’d like to get a bang for their buck and pick up a few new pieces without breaking the bank. I’m a good friend (and an even better designer, toot toot!) and found some excellent leather chairs for their lounge/bar area. The chair above and these below are all from Overstock.com, my favorite source. Sure sometimes you receive a wrong or broken item and it’s a miss but with only $3 shipping and no tax, it’s always worth a shot. Overstock is also a great source for high thread count sheets in neutral solids.

Dan Ackroyd Sells Vodka that has something to do with skulls and diamonds

Dan says:

This ‘Pure Spirit’, vodka triple filtered through polished crystals known as Herkimer diamonds, free of additives, is exquisite any time of the year but perhaps ideal for October… Brought to us by Dan Aykroyd, known for his fascination with the invisible world, Crystal Head Vodka ties in with the story of the 13 Crystal Heads that have been unearthed at various times on our planet… from the Yucatan to Tibet. The Heads are believed to emit positive energy, good will and prosperity. Crystal Head Vodka is perfect as a lone shot, chilled or served in signature cocktails. “Unlike most vodkas in today’s marketplace that use additives, glycol, citrus and sugar to improve smoothness and flavor, Crystal Head Vodka is a pure spirit with no additives. It is quadrupled distilled and filtered three times through charcoal followed by triple filtration over Herkimer crystals from one of the planets rarest deposits of close concentrated semi-precious stones”- Dan Aykroyd.

Obama to McCain: You Got Served

Watch Obama and McCain dance it out like cinematic civilized urban youth. Where is the richie rich ballerina chick who wants to slum it with a breaker then falls in love despite her parents objecting cause you know, she doesn’t SEE color?

The “Bucklette” has me paralyzed

To the etched birds and ancient-looking heavy metal, my brain goes, “YES!” To the fanny-packishness: NO! To the idea of not lugging around a huge bag with too many pockets that I set on fire accidentally but still use and actually lost my blackberry INSIDE it for 20 minutes this morning: YES!

It’s from Sandy Alexander, founder of Philly’s Dessa Lea Productions and former creative director of Comcast. (Pre-Comcastic?)

Part belt buckle, part purse (though there’s a clip-on one), I’m not sure if the world is ready for Bucklette. But maybe they’re more decisive than me, in which case, I’m wondering how this is gonna go over.

Thoughts?

Marcia Brady on doing mad drugs

Maureen “Marcia Brady” McCormick had a book release yesterday on growing up famous, having secrets, doing mad drugs and recovering into depression and so on.

“I always had a smile on my face, but deep down inside I was crying,” she says in the video. I haven’t read a lot of celebrity memoirs, but it’s not like I wouldn’t if all the books of substance suddenly disappeared from Earth.

I did read Drew Barrymore’s while on an insomnia bender at a friends’ house forever ago, as well as Ethan Hawke’s shitty “novel” which really, really should have stayed a tree.

Design Philadelphia 2008

Today kicks off Design Philadelphia, the nation’s largest celebration of design.  In conjunction with National Design Week, the next 7 days in Philadelphia promise to be very art and event heavy.  If you love to mingle while discussing the loftier subjects of design theory and innovation, this is your time to shine.

Check the full list of events HERE.

Thanks to the DesignPhiladelphia blog for breaking out the full list of today’s events.  You’ll see me at “Bamboo Dreaming” because I’ve always wondered if Bamboo sheets and towels are really worth the hype.

Project Runway Episode 13: The Last One

LeAnne wins!

And thank goodness! Although Korto’s collection was gorgeous and I wouldn’t have felt the least bit sorry to see her take top prize, LeAnne has consistently been the strongest designer. And she’s a Portland girl and I like that.

For the sake of space, I’m just going to post my favorite piece from each collection and then give you a link to videos of the runway shows. And of course, you can always hit up Bravo’s site for single shots.

This piece impressed me most because it was the first time LeAnne showcased pants. And they were hot like whoa. The vest was also interestingly and expertly constructed.

LeAnne’s Collection

Kenley’s best piece was her bridesmaid dress from last week. The rest of her collection was pretty. I especially loved the way she handpainted her fabrics. Even if it was a little reminiscent of Balenciaga.

Kenley’s Collection

Korto’s collection focused on her African heritage and the colors she chose worked beautifully. This piece is representative of the whole collection and I love it.

Korto’s Collection

That’s about all there is to it, friends. This recapping has been grand and I’d love to stay and chat, but the Phillies beckon. Time to root, root, root for the home team!

GodDAMN Philly hates Palin

Brian at bestie site www.makemajormoves.com did the homework and dug up mad Flickr evidence of Philadelphia’s deep, dark, totally necessary hatred of Sarah Palin.

Halloween: Don’t fret!

Halloween sexy; I get it.  A friend explained to me that Halloween is her “super slut” day and just to make sure she can be totally shameless, she usually hosts a party in her home.  In her words “if the party is at your house, you don’t have to wear pants!”

If you’re shopping locally for your Halloween slut-gear, check out Philly based Ebay store Supreme Awesomeness.
