Pr3tty Vacant

An interesting idea…

recession + empty storefronts + hurting landlords + cash strapped shoppers + excess inventory + hey, consumers still need to express themselves + pop-up retail store + discount prices + special events + limited time only + DOW up or down + come broke, leave happy = Pr3ttyVacant

Sam Ewen has combined the ideas of pop-up shops and the art galleries that have been allowed to set up shop in vacant buildings on South Street so the place doesn’t go to pot during the economic suck and come up with Pr3tty Vacant, the semi-itinerant streetwear store currently at 704 South Street.

They call themselves a “temporary retail experience.” Their only advertising is word of mouth and twitter, the inventory changes up every week or two and is influenced by shopper feedback, and their lease ends July 31. According to fiftyonefiftyone, the owners want to stay in Philly after July, but are looking at something in Northern Liberties for their next stop.

Pr3tty Vacant: 704 South St. Open Wednesday – Saturday 1-9pm, Sunday 11am-7pm. Keep up at their twitter feed.
