I’ll be your seven-day fool
I haven’t had a physical calendar for a while. Since I’m disorganized enough that I require an electronic calendar with an alarm by my side at all times to keep it together, having another big one that has to stay at home on the wall always seems a little pointless. It’s just another reminder that I have a semi-functional brain when I look over and realize that I haven’t turned the calendar page since February or I’m still looking at the Sudoku-a-day from, like, four and a half months ago.
But here are a few options that, while they may not be entirely useful for penciling in friends’ birthdays, are beautiful, super-functional, or both.
This ink calendar is by Oscar Diaz, a Spanish designer. He says:
“Ink Calendar” make use the timed pace of the ink spreading on the paper to indicate time.
The ink is absorbed slowly, and the numbers in the calendar are “printed” daily. One a day, they are filled with ink until the end of the month. A calendar self-updated, which enhances the perception of time passing and not only signaling it.
Unsure how accurately the capillary action can be predicted, but still, what a beautiful thing to have on your wall. The inks are different colors related to each season. Unfortunately, the ink calendar is not in production at the moment. Someone make this, please!
For those who forget to turn the calendar’s page, or for those who particularly enjoy bubble wrap, there’s the Bubble Calendar.
The calendar is fully functional, with days of the week and all major U.S. holidays marked and weekends bolded for easy reference. The calendars make a big statement at 48″ x 18″ (122cm x 46cm) and are available with either a thick paper or clear plastic backing.
This strikes me as one that I’d forget to change the date on, but maybe less so than others as it has a bunch of useful stuff inside.

Office Calendar, Quaim Goodwin.

This is the way I’ve devised to keep track of how close to my posting quota I am when work weeks start on Wednesday and you have to do an odd number of posts per week. Other absentminded bloggers, take note!
Emily G’s calendar: free (well, if you already have some form of bulletin board)! Just grab some paint chips from the hardware store (poor Ace Hardware on Fairmount has no idea how many of their paint chips I’ve taken for various projects over the last three years), a bunch of flat thumbtacks, a Sharpie, some old magazines and a gluestick.
Now I highly suggest you listen to this song, which I love.

I want the top one!!
I agree. I love the top one. It seems that Spaniards appreciate their artists before their dead, which is cool. I think it’s part of the reason why Barcelona is so awesome. Even though Gaudi and Picasso are gone they’re celebrated. Some call the city the biggest museum in the world.
And Etta! Love her. Great post, Emily.
