Persepolis is Philly’s One Book 2010

What a delight! The Free Library, which is, uh, technically scheduled to be closed starting Oct. 2 in 2010 because of the budget, nevertheless chose Marjane Satrapi’s graphic novel Persepolis as their One Book this year. And she’s speaking at the Central Library for free next Wednesday, the 23rd. I’ve seen her speak before! She’s awesome! It’s free!

A graphic novel is an interesting choice for the One Book, isn’t it? So let’s make sure the library stays open through 2010. I get the impression that even though it feels like a foregone conclusion where everyone in town has to clap their hands if they believe in fairies, it is nevertheless quite important to not rest in your knowledge that they cannot close the libraries and get out there and clap your goddamn hands.

Learn about the closings and learn what you can attempt do about the closings. I’m looking at the idea of never getting back into their sheet music library, which has been closed forever, and it makes me want to cry.
