What To Do This Weekend

What to really do this weekend is sit inside and drink hot chocolate and eat bad food and read a book and look outside while the pretty snow turns to ugly slush and melts.

But this is presumably how you’ve spent the last three days, or at least the two prior to today, where shoveling was the only appropriate outdoor activity.  Therefore, for those of you who fester at the prospect of spending so much time under your own roof, here are some fun sales to get you under someone else’s.

Playing off of the “pop up shop” concept and relocating to Philly’s more populated retail center, the neighborhood of East Passyunk, from Broad to Dickinson, will be moving to the corner of 16th and Walnut near Rittenhouse.  The weekend-long event involves twelve stores—Sweet Jane Vintage, Fringe Salon, Urban Jungle, Green Aisle Grocery, and more—many of which will also be offering discounts (10% off Sweet Jane Vintage, spend $30, get $5 off at Green Aisle).  See below for a picture of everyone setting up, courtesy of their PR’s Twitter.

Second Saturday is also this weekend, meaning Passyunk Avenue is clearly having its moment in the sun.  Bija Yoga will be offering heart themed workshops all day (heart-opening yoga, heart health nutrition, etc) and, from 5:30-8:30pm, offering Nolia chocolates for purchase and for sample (something I’m always craving after an hour of downward dog).  Local artist Genevieve Beattle will also be presenting her work at Absolute Abstract, the frameless art store nearby.

Bus Stop, ever ready for a celebration of some sorts, will be having a Loves You Back sale on Saturday and Sunday.  From 12-5pm, stop in for champagne, chocolate, and 15% off the impractical, but adorable, new shoes you will undoubtedly want to purchase.

In case you’ve already forgotten via the other holiday this Sunday, it’s also Chinese New Year.  Let Lush cosmetics remind you with red and gold themed products.  Bonus treat of “sherbet sunrise”—most likely a vegan bath bomb of some sort—with any $60 purchase.

For  anyone brutally sick of the Valentine paraphenalia that has been bombarding your local Rite Aid for the past two months, Love.Fashion.Muder is having a Valentine’s Day Massacre show on Sunday at Top Hat (247 Market St.) at 8pm.  Clothes by Topstitch and Smak Parlour, hair and makeup from INKED magazine’s Aaron Morin.  Lionshead beer and Three Olives cocktails available all night, while DJ Jon Gill makes you dance to forget singledom.

Just some quick tips for sales as well: At Juju Salon, schedule any facial for this weekend and add a raw chocolate mask on for free. It says the mask “refines and minimizes the appearance of pores and is high in Vitamin C,” but who can be bothered with details?  It’s chocolate, kids.

And finally, Arcadia is also having and online Winter Wonderland sale.  Enter SNOWBALL at checkout for 25% off all orders.

Could there be a more appropriate coupon code?
