What To Do This Weekend
It’s First Friday AND Second Saturday….do you know where your local events are?
The Free Library’s quirky and affordable used book shop, The Book Corner, is expanding. Check out the grand opening of The Next Page, their outlet on 7th and Chestnut, tonight from 5-9 pm, where the will be wine and discounts on their already pretty cheap book stock.

Center City shops, apparently, love birthdays as much as I do. (Think Smak Parlour and MOKO, a few weeks back.) Tonight, from 6-9pm, Three Sirens boutique is hosting their 5TH Birthday Party . There will be the expected cake and cocktails, along with a few store discounts. RSVP here and then print out the accompanying invitation for a free gift upon your arrival!
If your a skateboard fanatatic, Exit Philadelphia will be hosting a group art show, Deck Heads 3, at 6pm tonight. The exhibit features skateboard decks from over 80 artists, locally and nationally. The work will be for sale, but, FYI, cash only.

On Saturday, VIX Emporium is hosting a Mother’s Day Craft Fair from 11am-5pm. The Second Saturday event will be held at the firehouse on 50th and Baltimore Ave. Aside from the usual jewlery and homewares, author Debra Powell-Wright will be at VIX making doll magnets as part of a project she’s working on, Me & My Sisters, where she explores the way women use style.
With the opening last month of the Michener Museum’s Icons of Costume exhibit out in New Hope, the gift shop is celebrating by hosting a Fashion and Accessories trunk show, on Saturday from 10am-4pm. Included will be bright gems and jewelry from Dakota Moon, silk scarves from Harshita Designs and extravagant hats from Ann Kock of Couture Creations (who’s landed herself in the Kentucky Derby Museum’s Hat Exhibit–isn’t that every gal’s dream?)

Students from Philadelphia University who’ve majored in fashion design or merchandising will show off their talents this Saturday at the annual student fashion show, this year entitled, An Evening of Innovation. From8-10 pm, join the students at the Academy of Music, followed by a post-show reception at the Hyatt at the Bellevue. Below are some of last year’s designs.

Happy weekend everyone!
