When I saw this on Swiss Miss this morning I was in awe. The D.I.Y. Honey beehive is designed to succeed in urban environments like a balcony or a terrace. Developed by Lena Goldstiener, this hive is remarkable for both its design and its functional potential to help the dwindling bee population. (Which, according to the US Department of Agriculture, went down 29 percent in 2009 and had gone down 32 percent in 2008). This is why I hope the D.I.Y Honey goes from a project to a product as I know there are a lot of urban gardeners out there who would love to have a beehive in their garden and do their part to increase the bee population.
