Tim Gunn at KOP…and in PW

gunn.bang!

Tomorrow at 2 p.m. you can catch Tim Gunn, best known for his mentor role on Project Runway, hosting the King of Prussia Mall’s fall fashion show. The show will feature fall 2010 looks from Juicy Couture, Kate Spade New York and Lucky Brand Jeans. Gunn will also be on hand for photographs and to sign copies of his book Gunn’s Golden Rules: Life’s Little Lessons for Making it Work.

PW writer Charlie Gill had a chance to chat with the recently named Chief Creative Officer of Liz Claibourne this morning. Here’s what Gunn had to say about tomorrow’s event:

TG: “We love these events.  They’re meant to be educational – we don’t just parade clothes down a runway on models and just let that be that.  We narrate the show, we talk about how to transition items a number of different ways;  we talk about taking a look from day to night.   We mix up the brands in the show: in some cases, yes, it’s head-to-toe brands but in other cases we mix it all up because that’s how women would really wear it.”

CG: So it’s more of a functional fashion show—It’s about real, useful fashion tips?

TG: “Exactly, because this is the real world.  People get enough of the usual runway shows, and they can be very distancing and very alienating.  And we want our event to be very accessible; we want people to be able to believe these looks.”

For Gill’s full feature on Gunn, be sure to pick up a copy of next week’s Philly Weekly—you know, in the yellow boxes all over this fair city.
