Magical Models
According to the L.A. Times, Harry’ s best friend and worst enemy are ditching the robes and collegiate-colored ties for some more modern digs. Rupert Grint and Tom Felton – Ron Weasley and Draco Malfoy, respectively – will be the new faces of Band of Outsiders’ 2011-2012 fall and winter campaigns.
The two actors flew across the pond to Hollywood for an appropriately placed photo shoot at The Magic Castle, “the world’s most famous club for magicians and magic enthusiasts, and home to The Academy of Magical Arts, Inc.,” according to its website.
And we’re definitely digging the new Felton – rugged, dirty, man candy. No hair gel in sight.

Closed Shop Finds New Use
If you’ve walked pass the small store once home to Petuilia’s Folly at 1710 Sansom St. recently, you may have noticed awesome vintage items beautifully displayed in one of the windows.
Sadly the Center City boutique has not reopened. However, its former owner has been kind enough to lend the store’s otherwise empty windows to local small business owners to advertise.
This includes Caren, a current sales associate at Arcadia Boutique who runs the Etsy vintage shop, Bull&Barter during her spare time. The other window is currently occupied by a rug designer.
Bull&Barter has a lot of great clothing pieces—a mix of funky and cute—as well as shoes and accessories (see below). For those who have seen the display, hopefully it worked and you’ve already perused the selection.
It’s good to know that there’s business owners out there helping other small local businesses thrive even if they couldn’t withstand the recession.

VMA 2011: The Most Memorable Look?
As always, last night’s MTV Video Music Awards delivered some pretty epic moments and performances. However, with Lady Gaga sporting only the same, normal men’s attire all night, the award for “Craziest Red Carpet Look” was actually up for grabs for a change.
Not surprising, it came down to Katy Perry vs. Nicki Minaj. Somewhere between Candyland and Barbie’s Dream House, these two ladies shined in the sea of rather unusually boring, predominantly black, red carpet fashion.
But there can only be one winner.

I actually really adore Katy’s geisha-esque dress and give her credit for changing into two other wacky outfits during the show. Yet, covered in craziness from head to toe, Nicki’s look had more going on then all three of Katy’s looks combined. Add a straightjacket and it would have been complete. Hell, she already had a mask.
In fact, I find Nicki’s elaborate ensemble so bewildering and visually stimulating that I would like to officially declare her my pick for overall best dressed.
That’s right, BEST DRESSED. If she had rocked this at any other award show, I might feel differently. But if you can’t come to the VMAs with stuffed animals hanging off you, then where can you? I’m not even sure how she managed to sit down.
As for my pick for the worst dressed individual of the evening, well, I would have to go with Dina from The Jersey Shore. It’s Rainbow Bright meets 80s coke-whore and just absolutely horrendous. Is this chick for real? I don’t know whether to barf or carve my eyes out with an ice pick and send them to Nicki Minaj to wear as earrings next year.

DIY Beauty: Coffee Hair Dye
Besides being the main stimulant that gets you through your workday, did you know that coffee can also be used as a hair dye?! Yes that’s right, along with Kool Aid and lemon juice, coffee is yet another beverage you can use if you’d like to subtly change the tint of your haircolor. Since this process essentially stains your hair with carmel-colored tones, the lighter your original shade, the better. And if you hate it, then no worries, it washes out in a couple of shampoos.
I’d had known about this trick for a while but only got around to trying it out for myself this weekend (thanks Hurricane Irene boredom!). I generally followed the steps from this lovely lady I found via Google, who seemed to have great results. Me? Not much of a noticeable difference, but we’ll get to that later.
Basically, here’s what you do (note: your hair WILL smell like coffee after, so if you hate that, maybe reconsider):
-Brew a full pot of triple-strength coffee
-Pour into a small basin and let cool
-Brush your hair free of all knots and put on an old t-shirt you don’t care about.
-Using a small cup, begin drenching your hair with the coffee over the basin (you can do this in the tub because it gets messy). Repeat this until well saturated, about 20-30 minutes or until your neck starts to hurt.
-Get as much liquid as you can into your hair and then wrap it securely with a plastic bag or something of the sort. (Don’t use a towel as it will soak up all the liquid).
-Drape an old towel around your neck to catch any drips and wait. Some gals keep it on for like 2-3 hours but being as I am impatient, I only did about 1.
-When you’ve had enough, jump in the shower – shampoo, conditioner and blow dry. Voila! You’re done!
Even if you don’t see the lovely espresso shade you were hoping for, it’s still a great treatment for damaged locks! Here’s my result below:
Not much of a difference, but I’m not mad at the results. And if it helps my bleached out ends, then that’s a good thing right? Will you try this? If you do, let us see your results!

Joan Shepp + Comme de Garcon + Matt Groening?

A batch of fresh inventory arrived at Joan Shepp yesterday including these limited-edition Comme de garcon and Matt Groening tees. That’s right, Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, god to a generation that defined slacker as a lifestyle and who rememebr when there was no internet. The t-shirts feature characters from Groening’s Life in Hell comic strip and are 100% cotton. There are three short-sleeved and one long-sleeved shirts making up the whole collection. We couldn’t help but think these might make an awesome present for that comic-lover in your life, but we don’t know the price yet. We are assuming, however, that it may be equal to just getting the guy some rare, imported Japanese comic, who knows?
Either way, we think Mr. Groening’s first foray into fashion is a success.
Get Made Over, Virtually
From gold flecked emerald eye shadows to iridescent plum lip tints, we all love marveling at the exotic vials of color on display inside our favorite makeup store (or really any makeup store). But who has the time and energy to try on countless colors and textures?
Thankfully, Top Shop has made color easier to decipher for our very own faces with Virtual Makeover—a tool designed to urge online shoppers to buy Top Shop cosmetic products. But unbeknownst to them, I’ve simply been using it to explore shades I’ve never tried on before. And I highly recommend all you other ladies out there give it a try.
All you have to do is upload a clear picture of your doll face and the fun begins. Choose foundation, blush, bronzer, eyeliner, shadow, mascara, falsies, lip-liner, lipstick, and lip-gloss. You can try on different colors along with different application techniques with adjustable cosmetic application or, pick from trending preset makeovers.
WARNING: you’re likely to wind up playing with this thing for hours. But seeing as though we’re going to be stuck indoors all weekend, it’s definitely a great way to keep yourself entertained.
