After five years of being in business, Philly’s beloved jewelry and accessories boutique, J. Karma, will be closing its doors at the end of this month.
Store owner Jeanne O’Karma has been in the jewelry industry for 17 years. She got her start with a business partner, but eventually wanted to expand and become independent with her own women’s boutique – thus, J. Karma was born.
Jewelry in J. Karma is imported from national and local designers from Philadelphia – some of which include Marlyn Schiff, Kelly Jones of Villette Jewelry, and Rachel Wilder. According to the boutique’s website, O’Karma made the decision to close partly because she became a mother not too long ago, and is expecting baby number two in April.
“Basically – it’s time to move on to the next chapter in my life,” she wrote. “I’ve had a great time here for the past 5 years.”
The boutique’s closing is a bittersweet feeling for O’Karma. She spoke fondly of busy First Friday nights, her friendly staff, and her diligent base of regular customers J.Karma has accumulated in the past five years, some of whom come in sometimes even just to say hello.
Of course, along with the boutique’s closing comes big savings on merchandise to be excited about. For the week of November 13, stop in to save 40% off sterling silver jewelry, jewelry boxes, belts and havaianas, along with other various markdowns throughout the store. For each week that goes by until the boutique’s last day, the sales percentages will go up, but the selection however, will go down. O’Karma suggests coming in as early as possible for the greatest selection.
