Ever since Anne Hathaway was announced as Selina Kyle in the upcoming The Dark Knight Rises, it seems that everyone on the Internet has hopped on the anti-Anne train and are already expecting the actress to fall short. At times I find myself unsure if Hathaway can pull of both gritty and sultry, while also wondering if we’ll get a transformation scene as perfect as Michelle Pfeiffer’s.
It’s too early to tell and we don’t even know if there will be a transformation scene. So for now, read Hero Complex’s recent interview with Hathaway, where I have gained confidence that she will make Batman fans like myself pleasantly surprised, if not proud. More importantly, she talks about the Catsuit!
“I love the costume because everything has a purpose, nothing is in place for fantasy’s sake, and that’s the case with everything in Christopher Nolan’s Gotham City,” Hathaway told Hero Complex.
Her stiletto-heeled boots inspired complaints from fans who deemed them unpractical, especially for Nolan’s realistic interpretation. Although, stiletto-heeled boots seem more practical than peep toed heels for a burglarizing feline-lady, but let’s not get into that.
As it goes for Batman’s gadgets, there’s more than meets the eye to Catwoman’s as well. The heels have serrated edges prepared to claw apart her enemies and when she’s not using her high-tech eye goggles, they flip back and act as cat ears.
If we can be so lucky, perhaps the generic Catwoman costume sold at seasonal Halloween superstores will get a much needed makeover. (I won’t get my hopes up.)
The costume is sleek and sexy, as Catwoman is in nature. From the trailer and various set photos we can conclude that Kyle will always be sporting a few certain items throughout the film: something black and elegant, red lips, pearls and most importantly, a dark and ready-to-pounce look in her eye. If you don’t already know, this is one dangerous bitch.
