Forty years after first opening shop in West Philly and expanding to 60 locations across the country, tomorrow, Free People will be unveiling it’s new brick and mortar store in between Alma de Cuba and sister brand, Urban Outfitters in the heart of the Walnut shopping district (1625 Walnut St.).
In homage to the city, the 3,000+ sq. foot space will be decked out in Philly-inspired art. Not only will the dressing rooms feature unique, handcrafted murals by local artists, including Kris Chau, Beth Garvey and Lital Gold, but over 150 repurposed love letters submitted by fans from all over the world will adorn an entire wall on the store’s interior (“The City of Brotherly Love,” get it?).
If you’re not familiar with the brand, they’re quality apparel, shoes and accessories can best be described as “hippie chic.” Their bohemian looks take inspiration from both the past and present to celebrate free-spirited femininity.
More specifically, the Free People describes their target customer as “a 26-year-old girl, smart, creative, confident and comfortable in all aspects of her being, free and adventurous, sweet to tough to tomboy to romantic.”
PW Style will be attending the media preview tonight and we’re really excited to see the final product. And you can bet your bottom we’ll be reporting back with plenty of photos and commentary.
